ZeroSuitBritney Posted May 24 Posted May 24 Another L for Israel If only there were means of enforcement. By a near unanimous vote (again) 13-2 (Israel, VP Judge from Uganda). Israel is expected to ignore the ruling, per usual. Ready for the bipartisan American freak out Thank you South Africa 10
Velvet Night Posted May 24 Posted May 24 Good. Ignoring these rulings only helps the prosecutor who is working to achieve a warrant against Netanyahu 1
St. Charles Posted May 24 Posted May 24 "We will continue until we feel Hamas is eliminated" was always a vague statement that gave Israel a blank check to do whatever it wanted. This is why explicit terms and conditions for war should be set ahead of time. Also why we have international courts to prevent situations like this. Israel handled everything poorly and their global reputation has deteriorated over the last few months. Like I said before, I think Netanyahu will be tried for war crimes one day. And though it doesn't seem like it, US support for Israel is greatly damaged as well. I've been reading through the history of this conflict and one of my biggest criticisms of Israel is that they can't grasp the concept of a proportionate response. It just leads to escalation of conflict which is often very unnecessary, and now this could possibly lead to over 100,000 people dying depending on how severe the operation is.

Their response is very proportionate in the sense that they clearly want to get rid of Palestinians and claim their territory for their own settlers. Israeli National Security Minister Ben Gvir literally said he wants to live in Gaza after this is over. The intent is to, at minimum, displace the native population and take over - at worst it is indiscriminate bombing and killing with the ultimate goal of getting rid of Palestinians and claiming the land for Israel. If we view the conflict through this lens it's very easy to see why Israel acts the way it does, and it's not unreasonable to assume that the genocidal intent is present - literally based on the things that Israeli government officials say, such as the quote above. Hamas is simply a convenient excuse to escalate Israeli long-term plans of levelling Gaza and make space for settlers. Even if Hamas stopped existing tomorrow Israel would continue to function as an apartheid, colonialist state. Edited May 24 by John Slayne 1 3

Well they cannot understand proportionality because they don't value Palestinian lives. To them, Palestinians are just weeds that need to be exterminated. 1
