Born to Run Posted May 24 Posted May 24 Quote When I hear a song or I see an artist do something or somebody whatever, some younger artist comes out and they have a song that sounds like mine or their voice sounds like mine, people are like &#$@ and I'm just kind of like dude let them, it's okay, like let them figure it out, they're inspired and its inspiration is going to turn into more inspiration is going to turn into more inspiration and I think that's, you gotta let yourself do that. Throwback: Billie Eilish Reveals Olivia Rodrigo Inspired Song 'Goldwing' (rollingstone.com) Quote "Goldwing," which featured in 2021's Happier Than Ever, includes the poignant verse: "They're gonna tell you what you want to hear/Then they're gonna disappear/Gonna claim you like a souvenir/Just to sell you in a year." When speaking to the LA Times, Eilish said she could relate to Rodrigo, who seemingly was an overnight sensation while still a teenager. "Olivia was getting big, and she was just, like, this little dainty child," Eilish said. "I felt so nervous. I was worried about her. She came up in that acting world, and people are so weird. I don't know — I just felt very protective over her. And I feel that way to everyone." 1

All Taylor did was... release voice memos of songs on her website. Not once did she bring this up herself. Y'all are so unserious with these comparisons 20 1 3 4

She's 1000% correct. Everyone starts off sounding like someone else, reminding people of this or that or getting compared to their predecessors. Creativity doesn't exist in a vacuum and inspiration is everywhere. It takes time for a new artist to find their footing and their own lane, especially if they are as young as Olivia or Billie was when she debuted. 23 1
ATRL Moderator feelslikeadream Posted May 24 ATRL Moderator Posted May 24 Umm, I thought she actually talked about the situation This is an allusion to creativity and a throwback quote meant to make the two quotes seem connected. 1

There's both of these types of veteran artists in the industry. One wants to support you and see you grow, the other one feels insecure and wants to clip your wings. Billie knows it well by now and hence she's talking about it. Gotta love her for that. 4 1
