KatyPrismSpirit Posted May 23 Posted May 23 Beyonce is being sued for allegedly infringing copyright of a New Orleans based music group. They claim Beyoncé, Big Freedia, JAY-Z and Sony Music illegally sampled their track "Release a Wiggle" without their consent. Article published by The Guardian Quote "Beyoncé has been accused of copyright infringement in a new lawsuit targeting her US No 1 hit song Break My Soul. The lawsuit names Beyoncé, Big Freedia, Jay-Z and Sony Music as defendants. It is argued that Explode used "unique and distinctive lyrics and musical composition" originally created by Da Showstoppaz, adding: "Defendants used plaintiffs' words, melody, and musical arrangement from their copyrighted works … Any reasonable person listening to Release a Wiggle and Explode would conclude that the songs are substantially similar". The music group members are calling for the group to be added to the credits of both Explode (officially published by Big Freedia) and Break My Soul, and to receive royalties from the songs' future earnings, plus damages. 2 1 1

ariesgroove Posted May 23 Posted May 23 yeah nah not hearing it sorry, it would be more on big freedia than bey anyway and even then it's just common phrases on bounce tracks 1
ScorpiosGroove Posted May 23 Posted May 23 took them all these years to come up with… this ? like try again next time 1

swissman Posted May 23 Posted May 23 It's clear this is a money grab because why is Jay-Z even part of this lawsuit? It's not even his song. He's just a co-writer but it's the sample he didn't write that is allegedly infringing on a copyright...very silly. 1 1

Yeah i know, im saying Big Freedia is the one behind Explode which was sampled on Break My Soul. The songs don't sound the same , they are just the same genre(bounce) and they say release the wiggle. 3
Joaco95 Posted May 23 Posted May 23 so, instead of suing big freedia for explode they are suing beyonce for using big freedia sample? what about tricky and the dream? why only big freedia AND beyonce and jay z? 1
airplane Posted May 23 Posted May 23 (edited) Beyoncé the thief strikes again! Edited May 23 by airplane 3
Jay07 Posted May 23 Posted May 23 These people sue because they hope for a settlement if the act doesn't want the track being tied down to prolonged litigation. I don't hear any similarity. 1
Roberto Posted May 23 Posted May 23 Oh, Beyonce, you never learn. What would Diane Warren say about this?
Pheromosa Posted May 23 Posted May 23 GOOD. BANKRUPT HER AND MAKE HER DROP THE VISUALS AND PROMOTE YOU WILL PAY GISELLE
