BloodLuster Posted September 27 Posted September 27 (edited) why are y'all crying and b*tching; the MV is exactly what she had to deliver. the last thing that we needed was a Nivea/Dove/Sephora TV ad Edited September 27 by BloodLuster 1 1
Ivan_brit Posted September 27 Posted September 27 Thank god she has a pretty face she was the main character of the video. At least she released a video Im happy she did one for this masterpiece song! Not following this lazy trend of not releasing videos Snatch a new Hot 100 peak Billie 2
stars Posted September 27 Posted September 27 Billie girl… I know she likes to direct her own music videos, but she's been missing lately. BOAF deserved a production but oh well—this will serve its purpose. 3 1
Ger Posted September 27 Posted September 27 What a miss. It wouldn't matter if this was the music video for a meaningless song like an Ava/Dua/etc song, but BOAF? Gurl, this is offensive. 1
Parachutes Posted September 27 Posted September 27 (edited) 2 hours ago, YellowRibbon said: The way her videos used to be interesting... Her visual distinctiveness was part of why she blew up (one of many reasons), so that being lacking recently has been a bit disappointing. A video can be simple but still be memorable and effective (WTPO being the prime example); even then, "simplicity" may not suit every song. I do respect though that as a director she's able to bring her vision to life, but I do wonder if bringing other people into the mix can help enhance that vision Edit: I see that she didn't direct this video (it was Aidan Zamiri) so the last bit is moot in this case Largely agree with what others are saying though Edited September 27 by Parachutes 1

Jenni Posted September 27 Posted September 27 I wasn't expecting much, but this music video is really underwhelming. And I say this as someone who liked the music videos for lunch and chihiro even when a lot of people were hating them. I get the concept of the video, but it could've been executed in a better way. The location and the color palette also don't make sense with the song. This video feels much more like a visualizer than a music video. I get that Billie likes to be simple with her videos and I like it too, but this song deserved way better. Her face card is what saves the video for me. The good thing about her inviting another person to direct this video is that it proves that the problem was never in her direction. Her videos are the way they are because she wants that way. She could bring the best director to direct her videos and they would still be simple, because that's what she wants, that's her own vision. 7 2
State of Grace. Posted September 27 Posted September 27 Well that was...something. It's kind of funny how the better her music gets, the worse her MVs get. I wasn't really a fan back in 2019, but she was arguably the most interesting mainstream artist visually since...Gaga? at that time and then everything went downhill. I understand wanting full creative control, but it wouldn't hurt her to work with a professional director here and there. Happier Than Ever and What Was I Made For? are her only good videos this decade. And her best MV is thanks to a Charli remix.
Lightbringer007 Posted September 27 Posted September 27 the only thing that throws me off the mv is the setting, like why couldnt she have just done it all in a flower meadow or in the woods. That wouldve been fine 3
Mrnoniee Posted September 27 Posted September 27 If low effort/low budget is what her team was going for, she could have had THIS: What a waste we really can't have it all. i hate it here 1
Taste of Honey Posted September 27 Posted September 27 BOAF is melancholic as hell, but yeah, that was not even what I was expecting. Could've at least been outdoors in some dreary place. 2
iHype. Posted September 27 Posted September 27 The video reminds me of The Edge of Glory music video and obviously not in a good way 1
terrorblade Posted September 27 Posted September 27 that "music video" she really HATES serving visuals this era huh

Still not confirmed but he probably directed it or co-directed it with her. Less than 2 hours to go! oh wow he can get it🫱🏿(‿⚙︎‿)🫲🏿 1
Hurem Posted September 27 Posted September 27 While I'm happy with HMHAS because I genuinely think it might be one of my favorite albums of all time, I'm a bit sad it's lacking iconic or memorable imagery to connect to the album 1
TheDreamer Posted September 27 Posted September 27 The way she could have just waited for Hearstopper S3 to premier and use clips from that and call it a day and it would have been still so much better than whatever this is
whatyouwant_ Posted September 28 Posted September 28 Thank god i was OUT during the BOAF mv release i knew the mess that was coming First, i learned to not be bothered at all regarding her music videos anymore and i don't care as long she keeps delivering the thing that really matters, THE BEST MUSIC. 2nd, i doubt Billie will ever work with any well know director anymore, she prefers to work with her closely friends, so it's better for you to keep lows expectations from now on. 3rd, youtube is dead, so why waste such a money when videos nowadays barelly pass 100-200m views anymore, even the ones with big productions. MOVING ON, CAN WE FOCUS ON THE TOUR NOW ? 1 1

AaronBryceSufjan Posted September 28 Posted September 28 thank god the tour is about to begin so we can move on 2
dreww Posted September 28 Posted September 28 I can't wait to see what visuals tour is about to bring hopefully she also serves us some choreo for the first time 1
Jude Posted September 28 Posted September 28 I imagined the MV to have that summery/fall vibe somewhere at a cabin in a forest with Billie doing romantic stuff and adventure with her lover with a storyline. Maybe them starting a family, having kids and raising them, getting old and one of them died from old age first. Damn. 1 3
HealerKirby Posted September 28 Posted September 28 Billie must have taken inspiration for the video from this Lana live performance 2

Not that the mv is bad, it's not its just too simple, she has been a minimalist for years so that's not surprising. But this song is so different from everything else it deserved something bigger and for me personally the abandoned building and green tones are totally off from the feeling the song gives. But it's her vision as the artist, it's her song so ig we just have to respect it. But I agree that her visuals were probably what made me aware of her and take notice in 2019, she was so interesting visually that made me want to listen to more and to know who the artist was. Thank god for her face card, the mv has a lot of replay value just for that alone. Also YouTube is really dead nobody cares anymore so it is what it is, we move on. Hopefully she has been using all the budget that she is not using on her MVs for her tour and her live visuals will be outstanding. Tour starts tomorrow!!
