bad guy Posted June 17 Posted June 17 (edited) Had a conversation with boomer coworker today and somehow music got brought up and he mentioned listening to the album and enjoying it. As bad as he thinks music is now he mentioned Billie (and Lana) as great modern artists. Her cross generational appeal needs to be studied. Edited June 17 by bad guy 12

It's longer, doesn't have a standard pop song structure, and is pretty experimental. BOAF is such a timeless pop rock song. Does chihiro have promo? Because I'm seeing that song doing amazing

For AM there's Kworb, but they have a methodology there, you can always go for the #1's, Billie still has 45 #1's on AM after a month and Taylor only has 3 #1's. 3

But if i would have to choose someone for her to collab it would definitely be SZA, even more after this mashup. I think their voices can blend so well together. 1
dumbsparce Posted June 17 Posted June 17 Am I the only one who feels like HTE never happened? It's almost like this is her proper sophomore era. 3
dreww Posted June 17 Posted June 17 I think I've decided that every song is a 10/10 expect for THE GREATEST. My only complaint is the first verses are dry. It's too laid back acoustic sounding. But the song is still a 9.5 for me.

As bad as he thinks music is now he mentioned Billie (and Lana) as great modern artists. Her cross generational appeal needs to be studied. YouTube videos about her always have comments from people aged 40 to 70+ saying how they love her music and her artistry. Her shows attract a very diverse audience in terms of age, gender and race. It's a false idea that she only has a bunch of teen girls as fans. Sure, they are probably the loudest online and at the barricade, but her streaming and sales numbers (even before this album) show how many people actually listen to and enjoy her music. And this is why, at 22, she is already a very established artist and isn't going anywhere anytime soon (unless she follows Gaga's steps and dedicates herself to acting for a while, i mean she probably will one day, but not for a while—maybe when she needs a break from all the madness like every other MPG). 3

There was definitely some lack of interest in HTE, mostly driven by the widespread criticism she faced at that time. It was a tough period and all the negativity managed to put many people off the album for a while. However, her fans remained loyal, and the quality of the music is undeniable, whether you like it or not. Additionally, the tour was exceptional, and everyone who saw her live gained a new perspective on the album. I'm biased because the album meant a lot to me, it came out during a time when I was struggling, and it was incredibly important to me personally. Sure, HMHS sounds more like a follow-up to WWAFA, but it also reflects her growth as a person. She was 18-19 when she wrote HTE, having just won all the awards she could dream of, and like anyone at that age she was struggling to figure out who she was as a person. She dealt with insane fame, stalkers and the inability to do normal teenage things, all while facing a pandemic that forced us all to stop everything and stay home without knowing what the future held. She called it an identity crisis album which sounds very on point. But I think it was necessary to reach the level of HMHS. Every step was essential, in my opinion, to get to where we are now. 8
