So we can call it a smash hit then?

They made the wrong choice but choosing LUNCH as the lead single, especially after seeing CHIHIRO's numbers. She could've gone #1 with that one for sure. :deadbanana4:

The Diner isn't getting enough love, I see. My instant standout along with Birds of a Feather

Didn't really connect to Lunch and Chichiro, that are supposed to be the unanimous highlights.

Lunch especially is just one nursery rhyme hook repeated 16 times. It's catchy but it's bad, I fear.

Yeah, and I think a Chihiro push would work better for her at the Grammys. Lunch isn't going to be a Grammy darling song. Pushing it just makes no sense to me

I think their strategy was to have several songs doing ~good simultaneously as opposed to one doing ~great. I'm not sure that is the CORRECT strategy, but definitely what they're trying. Her pushing BLUE to be the sound of choice on TikTok* further cements that theory. In the coming weeks, we could see CHIHIRO, LUNCH, and BLUE all doing relatively well with the GP.

Yeah, I don't get it either. Chihiro is leagues above Lunch in every sense. Catchy, crazy good production...

If LUNCH doesn't do well enough it can always be blamed on homophobia

can't decide whether Chihiro or Bittersuite is SOTY but they're up there

I think this may have surpassed ES as my fave album of the year

Some people here were worried that she couldn't have a song that made Top 10 :ahh:

I love that LUNCH is a single and the lead, because it is an explicit sexual statement from her coming from a same sex POV that we NEVER get from mainstream pop artists. People better stream after dragging her and calling her a baiter for Lost Cause and letting that banger also flop

Chihiro will do its thing on the side

LUNCH is such a top song, I'm living

I know it's about a girl but to me it's about the boy I currently have a crush on

yup. check out the thread where people were predicting its first-day streams. The majority of the votes were between 40-50 million. Billie exceeding over 70 million streams with only 10 songs is unprecedented.

Highest average debut streams per song for a female album in Spotify's history:

The Tortured Poets Department – 10.09M
Midnights (3am Edition) – 9.30M
1989 (Taylor's Version) – 8.00M

I cherish both parts of the album equally, tbh. Probably because both parts of the album flex a 1-2-3 punch (the stunning Lunch-Chihiro-BOAF, and The Diner- Bittersuite-Blue). My favourite song? Don't even bother asking, I can't pick one out at all :rip: Chihiro, Skinny, Blue, BOAF, and L'amour are definite contenders. In terms of favourite transitions, it is a tough battle between L'amour and the transitioning segment between Bittersuite and Blue. The synths imitating Blue at the end of Bittersuite still have me in such a chokehold :jonny5: It's like this grand revival of a fan favourite song finally escaping the vault of unreleased Billie music and making its way into the album. AHHHHH, I can't stop talking about the masterpiece this album is.

Ohhhh ***** I love the description you said at the end. Very accurate.

I'm in the same boat tbh. I just find myself travelling between the songs then I mentally choose one as a favourite before delving into another rich piece of the art that my mind didn't entirely comprehend initially. It's quite outstanding as I can't remember when exactly an album had THIS exact effect on me.

I think to put it simply I'm infatuated by the entirety of the project? As a singular piece? Usually artists say "oh listen to the whole album you'll get it" well in Hit me hard this is exactly the case.

CHIHIRO makes me want to walk in the sahara desert to listen to it and have an actual grand experience. Whilst BIRDS takes me to 1998 laying on my grandma's old wooden sofa in a sunny morning with doors opened. Such a nostalgic feeling. THE DINER also slaps you seated and forces a sexual spell on you. Then BITTERSUITE takes you on an emotional coaster before those electronic melodies at the end decide to have s ex for our pleasure. It's like Madonna's confessions and Britney's Blackout started making out without permission :jonny5:

Then BLUE hits :jonny5:
