Supernatural's Garth (DJ Qualls) and Benny (Ty Olsson) are getting married!

 

The actors behind two fan-favorite Supernatural characters are officially engaged. Qualls revealed the news on Wednesday's episode of his Locked and Probably Loaded podcast with Kelly Blackheart, explaining that he and Olsson first met at a fan convention for the series before becoming friends and eventually partners.

"At the convention, we didn't know each other at all — we maybe said three words together at the Supernatural convention, and then we went to London for four or five days afterward," Qualls said. "And then I was going to Turkey with a friend, and [Olsson] is such a pure, awesome guy, he came up to us — we all went out as a group — and he was like, 'Can I come on your trip with you?'"

Qualls remembered being impressed by Olsson's "ballsy" move to ask that. "I could never invite myself on somebody's trip, 'cause I'd be afraid they would begrudgingly tell me yes and then not want me there," Qualls added. "But it was just so pure and awesome, and that's who he is. I didn't know him, and it was the beginning of our friendship."

 

From that point on, Qualls and Olsson "became inseparable," first as friends before their relationship grew into something more. "Over the last 10 years, our relationship evolved to what it is today, and now we're getting married," Qualls said. "It's just so crazy that this person who was just my friend now I think about all the time and he sends the best messages, and he supports me and loves me unconditionally in the right ways. Because I would never abuse that ... Now we are going to be old men together, which is crazy. He's the best!"

Supernatural fans shared their support and congratulations for the couple on social media, and Olsson reacted to the messages on X (formerly Twitter). "Thank you everyone for all the love and support and kindness today," he wrote with a smile emoticon. "Sending you all some love and hugs."

 

Qualls and Olsson never shared the screen together on Supernatural, but they both played pivotal roles in the long-running CW drama. Qualls played Garth, a hunter-turned-werewolf who was a constant ally to Sam (Jared Padalecki) and Dean Winchester (Jensen Ackles) over the second half of the series. Meanwhile Olsson played vampire Benny, who debuted seemingly as a villain but bonded with Dean during their escape from Purgatory and became a loyal friend, ultimately sacrificing himself to save Sam.

Awww their pics together kinda give "we met on Scruff," but the story itself is so adorable and wholesome!  I wish them all the best

 

I had to look up DJ Qualls' filmography to see why he looked so familiar to me (turns out it was because of an episode of Monk), but not me discovering he was in a Britney video 20+ years ago! That surely had to add to the familiarity I was sensing.

i think when they said supernatural stars people just automatically expect the two leads sis (even though we all know it's unrealistic)

it's not about whether they are hot or not  it's not like any one of us is gonna shag them

this is so cute and pure  I wish they do last...I want my forever partner too but i dont want to have to wait until i'm their age :( the LGBTQ+ community really need to work on monogamous relationships a little....not that we need to be bound by the same rules as straight relationships and stuff but for those of us that do want it ...we need to stick together and start dating each other instead of the guys who will make us feel like we're their entire world only to then cheat in like a month

This was such a cute story! When I read the title I had no idea who it would be referring to, as I wasn't expecting it to be about Jensen and Jared and I wasn't aware of many openly gay actors from the show. Their story somewhat echoes my own as I'm openly gay (as is DJ) and it seems as though Ty has previously only been linked with women, which is the same as my partner. I'll have to show him this story as he knows how much I love Supernatural. 
 

That's 3 relationships that have blossomed from the show now.
