Harry_ Posted May 22 Posted May 22 I feel like this will benefit Billy more so than Taylor in the long run. Billy is giving underdog which is probably the biggest GP's fetish when it comes to consumption, and it helps that the album is actually decent. When the Grammy season starts, Taylor will be the object of sentiments around her big bully persona, desperate and charts hungry which will deter the Grammy voters from voting for her versus someone "cool" like Billy. Well Billy may not even win it but Taylor sure as hell ****** her chances. Thanks Taylor Nation! 9 6 2 10

PoisonPill Posted May 22 Posted May 22 I actually think this will work in Billie's favor. It has the badge as the biggest #2 debut in almost a decade, and the album's great word of mouth should give it legs. And optically, it does position Billie favorably in contrast to Ms. Capitalism. 6 1 1

Unless you are talking about BPVA but both don't really have commercial sound which is important factor in deciding the winner. 1 1

It actually isn't helping her optically so far since even the nyt is calling out Billie for having more variants than Taylor despite Billie's stance against them. TTPD is also outstreaming Hit Me since with all the sales tactics removed, Taylor would still be #1. 15 2
Lorenzo22 Posted May 22 Posted May 22 I'm sorry but you will never convince me that 1. taylor was behind all of this and 2. that this is a bad thing. I just find it so funny how some members talk about how this somehow takes the spotlight off of Billie and her album and how Taylor is unsupportive of other women in the industry when Taylor has shown Billie nothing but love and support. Billie not having a #1 won't affect her in anyway, neither career wise or monetary wise, it's literally just a chart. I understand why it might be upsetting to her fans, but it simply wasn't the most consumed album last week. 16 6
Cloröx Posted May 22 Posted May 22 I love Billie and her music, wish she gets no.1 debut but I hate her hypocrisy, she's shady person and always act holier than thou. Hope this will humble her 6 1 3

I'm good on all things TTPD They are 1st draft of the songs. Why she have to fake it? I think you misunderstood 1st draft/voice memo with freestyle. She didnt come up with the song on the spot. She already write everything before and then record that 1st draft on her phone to send to her producers. Its still interesting to see hows different it is from the 1st draft to the finished songs. The Cardigan voice memo is my favorite, so many lyrics change.

Rep2000 Posted May 22 Posted May 22 2 hours ago, dietmtndew said: I am kind of perplexed why Billie's team chose to release only a month after Taylor, knowing full well that TTPD was predicted to have huge numbers, that her albums do very large numbers in the weeks following release, and that Taylor's team will make moves to try and secure additional weeks at #1. And I don't buy that they just don't care about chart positions, because even if Billie doesn't personally care, her team and label most definitely do with all the variants. Just seems odd to set her up like this, when they could have released a few weeks later and most certainly had a #1 debut. This just nails the feelings I have. All other artists move away from Taylor's release date. Beyonce, Ari, Future+Kendrick, etc. Even someone as big as Bey avoids her. So whoever decided to release so close to her after is just asking for a challenge. 1
Rep2000 Posted May 22 Posted May 22 Also, how can one claimed that they "don't give 2 shits about the charts", but are now raging over a missed #1 debut?! At least be consistent and pick 1 struggle. 4

MardinBeksloy Posted May 22 Posted May 22 Nothing pleases me more than seeing her fans and her losing their minds now that she's blocked after saying they don't care about charts ALL week 2 1
Klein Posted May 22 Posted May 22 Amazing numbers for Billie, I think she might go to 320-330k in the end considering the amazing stability of the album and the visibility this "chart battle" has brought her. Taylor's sheer selling power is truly something else. I gotta say I'm living for the bitterness of literally EVERYONE involved, from ATRLers, to Billie, to Taylor (and their teams). This is so entertaining, especially for something so inconsequential. And I just saw that Blondie released a remix with an environmental activist? I don't want to believe it's a coincidence because the pettiness is next level, it's so funny. 11
