nostalgia Posted May 16 Posted May 16 (edited) Rarely does a conspiracy theory make its way into the mainstream the way a certain rumor about Avril Lavigne has. In a new episode of Call Her Daddy published on Wednesday (May 15), the "Sk8er Boi" singer addressed the long-standing Internet theory that claims the Canadian pop-punk superstar died in the early 2000s after her debut album Let Go was released, but due to her skyrocketed success, music industry execs replaced her with a doppelgänger named Melissa. "I mean, it's just funny to me. Like, on one end, everyone's like, 'You look the exact same. You haven't aged a day.' But then other people are like, there's a conspiracy theory that I'm not me," Lavigne said on the podcast in response. "Honestly, it's not that bad. It could be worse, right? I kind of feel like I got a good one. I don't think it's negative or anything creepy. We're good." Pressing the topic further, host Alex Cooper asked once and for all if the singer's name is, in fact, Avril Lavigne. "Obviously, I am me. It's so dumb," she responded with a laugh, before telling Cooper, "I knew you half believed it." https://www.billboard.com/music/music-news/avril-lavigne-addresses-melissa-conspiracy-theory-1235684020/amp/ Edited May 16 by nostalgia 10
Popular Post Aston Martin Posted May 16 Popular Post Posted May 16 The Avril/Melissa theory is up there with the Lea Michelle can't read theory as one of the funniest ones in existence 3 39
Popular Post Zack Posted May 16 Popular Post Posted May 16 Not this mess actually having a whole ass Wiki page on it And this section had me cackling: The conspiracy theory soon gained traction on Internet forums such as ATRL and Godlike Productions, where self-proclaimed "Avril Rangers" shared evidence. One ATRL post in 2012 suggested that the original Avril may actually be alive, using a picture of what appeared to be the singer buying cheese at a time when "new Avril" was supposedly battling Lyme disease. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Avril_Lavigne_replacement_conspiracy_theory 36
Popular Post Galah Posted May 16 Popular Post Posted May 16 Notice she just laughed it off and didn't even deny it. She acted as if it was not even a big deal. That's so something Melissa would say. 3 51
Da Vinci Posted May 16 Posted May 16 Does that interviewer have to say ******* every other sentence? She doesn't know any other swear words? 2 2

Wait, the link that the source cited links to a thread that's been deleted: https://classic.atrl.net/forums/showthread.php?t=785239 Not Avril Nation covering their tracks. We see you, Melissa. We see you. 5

selena_lavigne Posted May 16 Posted May 16 Avril released Let Go. Melissa has released 4 albums that are better than Let Go. I applaud Melissa for continuing her legacy. 1 6
Ivan_brit Posted May 16 Posted May 16 Not this lame story keeps getting bigger after more than 10 years She usually dont talk about it, I bet she hate this story, but the more she talk the bigger it will get 1
Buffy Posted May 16 Posted May 16 (edited) This Melissa clone seems to be an upgrade. She has the same interview mannerism with her legs and feet up on the chair like Old Avril. I think the real Avril has taken over. We have solid evidence because Melissa would've cared to release a 20th Anniversary edition of UMS. Let Go Avril doesn't care about UMS. Maybe we should've shown Melissa more love. Edited May 16 by Buffy 7
Magic_boXX Posted May 16 Posted May 16 Yep she said other celebrities too. We all know whos she's talking about
Fleahive Posted May 16 Posted May 16 It's the hair. I pray for the day all women are released from the shackles of bottled bleach blonde hair.
hopeisademonbitch Posted May 16 Posted May 16 It's so obviously Melissa. If it wasn't, she would have denied it and went on the defensive and not "oh, well, it could be worse." The question is, is this theory more or less common than the one about Paul McCartney dying in 1962. 1 1
