Romova99 Posted May 14 Posted May 14 Is Kylie succes in the UK underestimated? No other female artist her age and with almost 40 years in the music industry (besides Madonna) is getting great debuts, great numbers, solo hits and successful gigs in their main country like Ms. Minogue. UK first week sales: Kylie - Disco (54,905) Kylie - Tension (53,239) Gaga- Chromatica (53,000) Dua - Radical Optimism (46,298) Bey - Cowboy Carter (39,990) Billie - Happier than ever (39,000) Ari- Eternal sunshine (38,207) SZA - SOS (21,372) Miley - Endless Summer V. Discuss and stream her best song this decade: 6 4
Abracadabra Posted May 14 Posted May 14 Of course, nobody in their right mind would think it's not impressive 4 1
Dante Silva Posted May 14 Posted May 14 Whilst her success is impressive there was a time when she did not rely on 10 formats of vinyl (or whatever) to generate a Number One album from Gen X gays and millennials. Radio are agist and practically had to be blackmailed by Gen Z to play "Padam", so it's unlikely Radio are permanently back on board (like they once were). 2
Pillz Posted May 14 Posted May 14 Lol what kind of thread is this? OFCOURSE it's impressive, no one east of New York doesn't know who she is 1 2
naval23 Posted May 14 Posted May 14 Padam Padam reaching top 10 in the 5th decade of her career is just 7

I think they will be the exception not the standard going forward but the numbers ARE very impressive. The biggest shock for me in the OP is Texas Hold Em being #2. Hell even Stick Season being that low is weird.
Digitalism Posted May 14 Posted May 14 The numbers are great but imo first week sales don't prove anything more than that she has a fan base

Same could be said about any artist releasing music today. Unfortunately that is the current state of market, it is the era of streaming, so they need adjust to it Also 37 years since her debut, I dont think she needs to prove anything to anyone Edited May 14 by mike_int 1
RedCarpet Posted May 14 Posted May 14 Yes it is and her wine is very good queen giving gays what they want
Kyle-x Posted May 14 Posted May 14 Her debut was the first by a female soloist to ever sell over 2 million copies there so she's been setting records since the beginning, so yes 2
makeawish Posted May 14 Posted May 14 Kylie is basically royalty here but without all the bad things that implies
Dante Silva Posted May 14 Posted May 14 (edited) Also, the U.K. already had Kim Wilde slotted in to place who was best positioned to shift Kylie's numbers but she simply never (despite eventually attaining a U.S. Billboard Number One). The heartless way in which the U.K. stepped over one of their own was both cruel and damaging to Kim, who at one point was touted as the British Madonna (despite debuting first). The allure of "Neighbours", Australia's foreign glamour and Kylie's charisma proved an irresistible combination to the U.K. right from the get go. So for Kylie to surpass early rivals such as Debbie, Tiffany, Sonia, Martika, Paula and Taylor with ease, leaving every last one of them in the dust was an impressive feat and that's without even bringing up rock and Indie girls who wanted to rip Kylie to shreds. Elvenpath Posted May 14 Posted May 14 (edited) Yes, I think it's impressive how she has managed to stay successful without the US by her side. Now Americans are finally starting to catch up with her music thanks to Drag Race and the social networks. If she hadn't been successful in the UK throughout these years she might have quit music like her sister. Edited May 14 by Elvenpath
BraveNewSeth Posted May 15 Posted May 15 Kylie - Disco (54,905) Kylie - Tension (53,239) Gaga- Chromatica (53,000) Dua - Radical Optimism (46,298) Bey - Cowboy Carter (39,990) Billie - Happier than ever (39,000) Ari- Eternal sunshine (38,207) SZA - SOS (21,372) Miley - Endless Summer V. (18,746) This is genuinely insane to me
