Dua Lipa reaps the rewards of all that Radical Optimism this week, as her third studio album nets the biggest opening week for a British female artist in three years.

Radical Optimism, Dua's first LP to debut at the summit, shifted a total of 46,300 chart units in its first seven days; the most for any British female since Adele's November 2021 chart-topper 30.

Dua's album also boasts the biggest opening week of any British act overall so far this year, surpassing Liam Gallagher and John Squire's eponymous LP, which managed a first-week total of 39,400 in March.

Radical Optimism becomes Dua's first LP to debut at Number 1 in the UK. 2020 record Future Nostalgia peaked at Number 1 in its second week on chart. Self-titled 2017 debut Dua Lipa reached Number 3 but showed extraordinary staying power, with 354 weeks on the Official Albums Chart (and counting).

tbf british acts tend to go in at #1 and then sink without trace atm (it's all liam gallagher and stuff like that), feeling good about my prediction that this might outperform over here tho

Nice debut!

What was FN's first week?

Well yeah, these numbers are mostly from pure sales, and the streaming numbers aren't great. If she releases a fourth single I could see the album becoming stable in the long run.

yeah, i was surprised she only managed two songs on the top 40 singles and illusion didn't get much of a boost

i wonder how close Taylor was.

This isn't that much of an achievement btw. Charli XCX & Raye scored #1 albums in the UK. It's a fairly small music market - anyone can do it if you have physicals.

Raye didn't go #1, she peaked at #2 with 15k sales.

The impressive thing isn't the position, it's the sales. Since you mentioned Charli, she did 16k. Radical Optimism will most likely be one of the highest sales weeks of the year, if we're going by previous years.

people love to throw around "it was a #1 album!" in this country like it means something. shed seven had a #1 album this year (don't ask, you won't be happier for it)

34k, but it got blocked by a 5SOS album and debuted at #2.

It did go #1 the following week, though.

Ya they went pretty dirty last minute & barely eked it out (stole) lol and believe she did very solid #s the week after. Minimal to no decrease? + Had TONS of buzz & a scorching hot single at that point.
