Letemtalk Posted June 2 Posted June 2 (edited) 5 hours ago, Tovitov said: Biden's most recent ceasefire proposal Biden's most recent ceasefire proposal is almost the same as the ceasefire proposal that Hamas agreed to almost a month ago. https://www.aljazeera.com/news/2024/5/6/text-of-the-ceasefire-proposal-approved-by-hamas The main difference is that they want to make it look like Biden actually did something useful, other than just supplying Israel with bombs. For this latest ceasefire proposal, Hamas has said it "positively views Gaza ceasefire proposal set out by Biden" https://www.reuters.com/world/middle-east/hamas-says-it-positively-views-gaza-ceasefire-proposal-set-out-by-biden-2024-05-31/ Quote "Hamas confirms its readiness to deal positively and in a constructive manner with any proposal that is based on the permanent ceasefire and the full withdrawal [of Israeli forces] from the Gaza Strip, the reconstruction [of Gaza], and the return of the displaced to their places, along with the fulfilment of a genuine prisoner swap deal if the occupation clearly announces commitment to such deal," the group said in a statement. The problem here is that Israel probably won't agree to the proposal, because the far-right parties want the war to continue. https://www.timesofisrael.com/far-right-parties-vow-to-bring-down-government-if-pm-backs-hostage-ceasefire-deal/ Now Netanyahu appears likely to reject the proposal: https://www.theguardian.com/world/article/2024/jun/01/no-end-to-gaza-war-until-destruction-of-hamas-says-netanyahu-israel https://www.bbc.com/news/articles/c888p5p2zvxo Joe Biden described the proposal as an Israel proposal. Quote But despite Biden's description of the peace deal as an Israeli proposal, there was uncertainty about whether Netanyahu's government fully supported the plan. He clearly calls it an Israeli proposal here. Watch from 2:46 "Israel has now offered...." Either Biden was lying and it wasn't an Israeli proposal at all, or Israel are going to reject their own proposal. Give it a day or two and the bombs will still be falling on civilians in Gaza and the western media will be telling us that the proposal was rejected because Hamas wouldn't agree to peace.
