beabadoobee - 'This Is How Tomorrow Moves'

i think she's one of those indieish artists who have quite a pop star vibe to them and her image plays on that, i hear her on pop radio a lot and it fits in quite neatly there.

i doubt that she can really translate that into having a lot of proper hits or massive songs but she's in the lane where she doesn't really need to i think? it's that niche star thing where she brings in a lot of obsessive young fans who'll buy all the coloured vinyl and sell out her shows

doing this album with rick rubin feels like a shift to a more american sound but not necessarily more rocky, the songs we've had so far are still v characteristic of what she's been doing up til now.

it was funny when she did the radio 1 festival and said onstage she'd been playing w/rubin, the crowd were just like "who?", a lot of her fans have no context for him at all i think

Beaches comes out tomorrow! Sounds good. Can't wait for the rest of the album this Friday. I'm glad she moved the release up one week.

listened to half of this and what i've heard sounds great. feels more focused than beatopia, just really good well written songs, very old school singer songwritery

Definitely her weakest for me. The indie folk direction just isn’t what I enjoy from her

I've listened to the 4 singles and honestly they are really good! 'Coming Home' & 'Ever Seen' are my favs. I am going to listen to the album in a second, very excited for "The Man Who Left Too Soon" spacer.png

Update: I really enjoyed the album, probably one of my favorites this year!

My favs: 'One Time', 'Real Man', "Girl Song', 'Post', 'The Man Who Left Too Soon', 'This Is How It Went'

Beatopia was my most played album that year, I'm excited to listen to this record, especially bc i loved the pre release singles

The album needed more songs like Take a Bite, California and Beaches

I love it, not quite as amazing as Beatopia but One Time, Take a Bite, Post, California and Beaches are discography highs

california is talk's spiritual successor. song of the year :WAP:

sonically i feel like this album's uptempos are gonna be more similar to fake it flowers which is my least favourite sound from her…the ballads are leaning towards clairo territory too much sometimes

I do wish there was more rock or pop punk oriented stuff but I enjoyed it still, the songs have good hooks as usual from her

Beaches is truly a great song :heart2:

To me, all of her albums are very similar quality. But this is probably very slightly my least favorite (where Beatopia is my favorite). I've been disappointed that so many of my favorite songs in 2024 have been lead singles because Take a Bite is still my favorite track- even if there are lots of songs on here I find great outside of TAB.

i was the same from the inside

wanted to change, took a big fight

calling it bluff you'll see it real time

wish you could see it's been a rough ride
