Beyondslay Posted May 1 Posted May 1 (edited) I grew up and witnessed this era, I first encountered her music through this awesome platform called imeem (RIP) where I even once downloaded her first mixtapes for free! I was obsessed! Gaga at the time was simply a fun breath of fresh air! IT WAS A TIME! Edited May 1 by Beyondslay
redsbae Posted May 1 Posted May 1 Along with her undeniable talent, Gaga had one of the best creative teams. Laurieanne Gibson, RedOne, and her original management team really brought out the best in her. Once Gaga got full creative control and got rid of them , everything went downhill. 3 3

mrpartyrocker Posted May 1 Posted May 1 I will never forget those times!!! The fact that I grew up witnessing such an amazing popstar and everything she was doing was iconic. Like literally any time she would leave the hotels it was an EVENT! And she normalised the idea of a fanbase. Little monsters were a family. She entertained us between 2008-2013! I remember joining tinychat to speak with little monsters and watch lq videos of her monster ball and btw ball. I'd spend hours with strangers but somehow that one thing we had in common was the foundation of some really great friendships! i'm afraid we'll never have something like this (at least not for the next 50 years). You see, what Taylor's doing is different and the attention is more on the numbers she's doing. With Gaga, her presence anywhere was eventful and iconic! The fact that Bad Romance is bigger than any Taylor Swift #1s.. There's a difference between a commercially successful artist and an artist that changes the course of the industry! 1 2
Gladiator Posted May 1 Posted May 1 I miss this Gaga so much. She was really who brought me into pop culture during her debut.

I'm sure that today she would be treated as Madonna's successor and not Taylor. That is a really interesting point. Born This Way was the perfect follow-up to The Fame/The Fame Monster. Things started to fall apart during the Born This Way tour. She was doing too much and coping with drugs instead of taking a break. This led to her breaking her hip. The BTW ball was too ambitious and changed the trajectory of her career forever. After the disaster ending to the BTW ball she rushed into the ARTPOP era without dealing with the underlying issues that happened during the BTW ball. She was aiming for the fences with AP and wanted it to be as culture defining as her previous eras, but because she didn't take the time to rest and deal with management issues the era seemed half baked and hurt her career This was the moment when her unstoppable pop star image died. Even though that part of her career was over, she was able to adapt and change her image and focus on displaying her musical talent. This opened many doors for her and led to her becoming a blockbuster A list actress. Her music career is still alive, but definitely very different than her first debut eras. She is now more of a Barbra Streisand figure instead of a Madonna

You literally can't change the industry if you're serving OUT-OUT by your second album, what echoes of the fame do you see today? For five seconds you had Nicki trying to do a few wild outfits, that's an industry change? 1 1 6
Gagaast Posted May 1 Posted May 1 Largely because of back-to-back pristine songs like Just Dance, Poker Face, Paparazzi and Bad Romance. Her tactics only worked because her songs had quality in 2008 to 2011, and I say this as a GaGa fan.

I remember everytime she stepped outside into the street it was always a new outfit and she would end up on the news section of the AOL homepage simply because her style was outrageous. It became apparent that every celebrity started copying her style.
YourHonesty Posted May 1 Posted May 1 It was a combo of talent + perfect timing. In the US pop took a backseat to hip hop/R&B in the mid 2000s, and artists like Justin, Nelly, Fergie, PCD, etc. were straddling the line with music that played to urban sensibilities (while others diverted to a rockier sound like Avril and Kelly). The success of GGGB and the hype for Britney's comeback showed just how much of an appetite there was for a return to a more Eurodance-oriented pop sound. Gaga capitalized on all of this in a way that was both retro/nostalgic and forward-thinking. It was bigger than just music, she was the zeitgeist. 2
Loroy Posted May 1 Posted May 1 Groundbreaking style & visuals, catchy music that was different from what was mainstream at the time, Her abundant talent and charismatic character were evident, but mostly, thanks to her work ethic - she was at every Award show, TV show, radio station, magazine, launch... the promotional efforts she undertook were unparalleled, and imo, no one has yet reached that level. I don't believe she had much of a social life or time to herself during that period.. She's clearly making up for it today lmfao
Strawberry Bubble Posted May 1 Posted May 1 1 hour ago, alfonso12 said: She released smash after smash, like, I don't think gen z realizes how big those songs were. Plus, she had amazing videos and performances that kept people talking about her, it was impossible to escape from. It was like she had a song as big as Miley Cyrus' 'Flowers,' and then three months later, another hit just as massive. And on top of that, you had the videos, her persona, and those killer dresses she wore. 3
Oktober Knight Posted May 1 Posted May 1 She really was on top of the world for a year or two! It's a shame her star power didn't continue on. 1

Dance music was reborn because of the fame/the fame monster (an era that lasted over 3 years). You must have lived in a cave if you are denying that. also, born this way is one of the big eras of 2010's thank you. 2 2

Anthinos Posted May 1 Posted May 1 I still remember that time. Her music and her voice were just different. It sounded like something that didn't exist yet. I remember thinking that The Fame sounded futuristic and I had goosebumps during I Like It Rough. Her music was fresh and then of course she had a crazy fashion style that the media was always talking about. 1
tshwark Posted May 1 Posted May 1 Didn't Susan Boyle broke records and outsold Gaga in pure sales and The BEP dominated with BBP and I got a feeling regardless of Gaga being around, now if you talk about controversy definitely.
єѕℓαм Posted May 1 Posted May 1 Cuz she was determined to be the biggest pop star on the planet she had the talent, creativity, uniqueness and drive not to mention the infectious pop tunes

Not you talking about numbers as if that's the only thing that defines someone's success. Are you really comparing susan boyle with lady gaga? And that ONE song BEP smashed with during that time?
