Problematique Posted April 30 Posted April 30 The British artist is set to testify today, having filed a written statement on the benefits of regulated artificial intelligence Twigs has filed a written testimony on artificial intelligence to a U.S. senate subcommittee, revealing that she is developing her own deepfake to interact with fans. She will testify on Capitol Hill today, Rolling Stone reports. In her written testimony, FKA twigs says her own deepfake has been in development for a year and is "not only trained in [her] personality but also can use [her] exact tone of voice to speak many languages." The letter continues, "Our careers and livelihoods are in jeopardy, and so potentially are the wider image-related rights of others in society. You have the power to change this and safeguard the future. That the very essence of our being at its most human level can be violated by the unscrupulous use of AI to create a digital facsimile that purports to be us, and our work, is inherently wrong. It is therefore vital that as an industry and as legislators we work together to ensure we do all we can to protect our creative and intellectual rights as well as the very basis of who we are." sneakyishere Posted April 30 Posted April 30 (edited) This is twigs' statement from an hour ago.: "hey everyone so just to be clear today i am speaking to congress about the need for legislation to protect artists rights with ai. it's such a huge honour and something i feel passionate about i have always experimented with new technologies and as you have seen i have even given you previews of what i have been doing on discord over the past couple of months. the curiosity of me creating my own deepfake has been in the search to find control and agency in this momentous moment in history, unfortunately other artists have not had the same privilege. as with all technological advancements legislation needs to be put in place to safeguard against theft of likeness and intellectual property etc… i am speaking at 2.30pm et link below i am speaking on this on behalf of all artists, it should be a basic human right to protect and be in control of one's likeness and art." Taylor fanboy Posted April 30 Posted April 30 AI most especially GenAI needs to be regulated by legislation ASAP. We're feeding this LLM which won't ever stop consuming and recreating content, and for what? So multi-billion corporations could cash in on the hype and savings through downsizing? It's irresponsible to not have this regulated since the 90s.
KatyPrismSpirit Posted April 30 Posted April 30 I agree. AI should not be penalized the way it currently is. It's actually an incredibly useful tool that can save you time when making music. People don't know that AI is mostly used to increase your own productivity by letting AI do time consuming tasks. Music production is extremely complex and expensive and AI can be extremely time and cost convenient. (FKA twigs isnt a massively huge act so AI can definitely save her time and money in music production) And it is already being used a lot within the music production field, especially in EQ'ing, harmonizing stems or vocals, making visuals and the cover art.
