mercurialworld Posted April 27 Posted April 27 From the New York Post: Quote Experts say the daily shower has no proven health benefit, dismissing the dousing as a socially accepted practice geared toward staving off accusations of funkiness — as A-listers like Jake Gyllenhaal and Mila Kunis admit they've been saying no to the nozzle. "Why are we washing? Mostly because we're afraid somebody else will tell us that we're smelling," environmentalist Donnachadh McCarthy told the BBC. Manhattan dermatologist Dr. Julie Russak previously told The Post that prolonged and daily showers could strip away the "skin's microbiome," which plays a role in protecting the skin and is "also extremely important in overall health of the body." Chemist David Whitlock was so adamant about preserving this dermal barrier that the bathing abstainer didn't shower for 12 years, instead opting to spray himself with good bacteria that he claims neutralizes the body's smell-making chemicals. When asked about addressing critics, he told Vice: "Tell anyone who mocks you that they are betraying profound ignorance of the skin microbiome, and then walk away." "If you go 100 years back, we didn't shower every day, because the shower was not a normal thing to have," declared Kirsten Gram-Hanssen, a professor in Denmark at Aalborg university's Department of the Built Environment. "We don't shower because of health. We shower because it's a normal thing to do." So, ATRL, what do you think? Will you be skipping the shower this morning? Or do you think this is a load of BS?

St. Charles Posted April 27 Posted April 27 I mean some of it makes sense. But let's say you live in a big city with a fair amount of pollution, go to the gym every day, and have a hairy dog. Now you probably should shower that often. I personally sweat too much to miss a shower but oh well. 9
xokuba Posted April 27 Posted April 27 Must be a promo for Charli and Troye's SWEAT Tour! loves it! 1 1
ontherocks Posted April 27 Posted April 27 Will forever and always shower twice a day (even more during extreme heat in the summer) and that will never change. 3
nadiamendell Posted April 27 Posted April 27 Coming from the writers at the New York Post, why am I not surprised. 2 4
beautiful player Posted April 27 Posted April 27 Correct. But the audience is not ready for this conversation, as evidenced in this thread. 3 1
vale9001 Posted April 27 Posted April 27 (edited) my dad is a doctor and specifically a dermatologist. Always thought me you have to wash everyday your ***** (or ******), your ass, feet, armpits and face and of course your hands. And then 1-2 showers at week especially in winter or 1 bath at week. At least you don't make a specific very dirty work or you're exposed to a very dirty situation. Showering 1 time at day or even 2 is dangerous. If on summer you have to make more than 1 shower at day not longer than 1 minute. If you make 3 showers at day, especially if they're long, it's very dangerous for the microbiome. If that is damaged is 100 times easier to get a cancer or any kind of chronic disease. Edited April 27 by vale9001 2 1
glitch Posted April 27 Posted April 27 This is one of those stories that seems to get written multiple times a year, because it's the perfect rage bait. People have their own habits and get understandably upset if you imply they've been doing something incorrectly their whole life. See also discussions about: How often you should wash your hair; if you should be using antiperspirant; if you should wash meat; if you should be using a wash cloth. 2 1
JO1s Posted April 27 Posted April 27 I mean most of the New York post readers and writers are smelly incels looking for any reason to avoid taking a shower.

Leptine Posted April 27 Posted April 27 Scientifically I don't doubt this is true but I personally still prefer the sensation of feeling fresh and nice scented after a shower than staying sweaty-oily. 5
Mordecai Posted April 27 Posted April 27 Unless I'm going to the gym every day or had a sweaty day I've always showered every other day, there's no need to shower if you've been sedentary all day and don't smell 4 1
superben Posted April 27 Posted April 27 Depending on the climate and region. I live in a tropical country, so daily shower is a must, but for colder cities, I don't think it's necessary tbh, if the person does not work out and sweat much. 1
SoldierofLove Posted April 27 Posted April 27 Do these people at least use a bidet? Imagine inviting one of these people to your home and their sweaty ass mixes in with the residual poop that's still on their butthole and that seeps through their pants? That **** is now all over your couch and chair. 3
