The woman bullied a child relentlessly. She's an awful person with a screw loose and her talk show was the pits. Her antics on her sitcom are well-known. She was Roseanne-level atrocious.

And BTW, she marketed herself as the Queen of Nice, which is also backfired on Rosie O'Donnell, who she also treated like garbage. Rosie would only say that Ellen got what she deserved. Ellen wouldn't have female comedians on her show. She knew she would be upstaged. She ironically called people like Joan Rivers mean. Ellen has no self-awareness.
