Gonna ask an honestly and potentially silly question but wouldn't it cost a label more money to invest in a video and then shelve it ? I'm not saying that's the case here - just wondering. Because releasing the visuals at this point will only help the era w streams

I've always wondered this too :deadbanana:I don't even have a theory for why labels shelve videos. Like the cost has already been incurred by filming it, it costs nothing to upload to YouTube, and it generates at least some revenue even if it flops. The only time I can think of money being saved by not releasing it is if it hasn't been edited yet, but even really good music video editors must only cost a fraction of what it costs to actually film it.

too bad, it's actually quite a good album. the rollout (including single choices, timing) was absolutely abysmal though. i don't understand the strategy - did they want it to bomb? :doc:

Ok. I say all this as a Normani fan, but...

Why are we default blaming the label. It's such a boring narrative. Normani herself created unrealistic standards by hyping this work to the high heavens over 6 years. It's great work, but it's not 6 years of cooking, good. When you take this amount of time and "have you own way" with the creative process, surely she would have had a say in things like physicals albums, a music video or a performance. Perhaps she doesn't have as much power as she claims but it's time our fanbase acknowledges that she didn't have the numbers to begin with and it's showing.

Well, only the alleged Fair music video is shelved lol. That we know of at least… 😂😂

I have the whole album on repeat nearly two weeks later but especially Still, Grip, Insomnia and Lights On. Such a cohesive album but varied enough to not feel like a slog or too same-y. I also think the short (by today's standards!) number of tracks works to its advantage too.

I'm grateful that she released an album. Idgaf about numbers, success blah blah blah

the album is GREAT. Do we deserve visuals and performances? YES but that doesn't take away from how grateful I feel to have a great album from Normani.

Imagine when she drops a music video and give us performances

The music is literally selling itself

Unfortunately, itunes is quite irrelevant in 2024. Sales likely jumped from 30 to 50 copies.

People supporting with their money will never be irrelevant

Folks bragging about streaming numbers when the artist, producers others don't make much money from streaming is super duper irrelevant and whack.

She used to be hyped so much for the visual aspect of her work, so it's beyond weird that there are no MVs or performances. If the intention was for the "music to speak for itself", she's far off from such calibre of artists to pull it off

Why does Twitter Nation keep lying about charts :deadbanana4: It was #9 on All Genres at this point last week, it hasn't increased in its second week :rip:

The story goes like this: the album was never planned to be released in the first place. She decided to announce the album out of the blue with the artwork, putting the label on blast without any notice, and basically forcing them to release something. Of course, this manœuvre didn't go to well as there was nothing to announce to begin with, no final tracklist, no date, nothing (explains also the long silence that ensued).

Label decided to go with it but with minimal investment as to prove their point: the album is not solid enough and without any investment on our side you won't go anywhere. Don't expect any video or performance or anything, this is the whole project as it is.

Twitter hype means nothing. We have proof .... album was good though. Also no promo no tv appearances no fallon jimmy kimmel, music videos. I think the label wanted to drop her since day 90... 6 years when at the time people kinda was interested in her and wasted her twenties -her best earning years. Shes gonna get dropped by the end of the year.

Both All Yours and Insomnia are too good to just be album tracks. They are worthy of a push, but I have a feeling that won't happen.

Not one single video... her dancing is just amazing. Her best asset left in a vault somewhere...this could have led to tik tok recreations oh well. Im still gonna listen to the album, one 9f the few i guess. It is a solid debut.
