Lmao I think you have confused her talent to perform and captivate an audience with being a popstar. The same thing is being done to Normani imho.

Janet has done many genres but she is R&B at the core, she has literally been a huge innovator in contemporary R&B.

I don't think y'all know what R&B is lol

edit: maybe it's because she has crossed over into mainstream appeal and that's what y'all mean by popstar but her music has never been purely pop to me at all. It's always R&B influenced with whatever other genre it's in

Do not agree, especially as someone who physically owns every Janet Jackson album and is probably her biggest fan on this forum. She is a pop star through and through, and again she has said so herself. Stop lumping all black women into R&B girls (yall do the same to Rih). Janet Jackson is a legendary black POP star. Pop is literally a mix of genres. Stop this blasphemy.

Wild Side playing at the end legit feels like my husband returning from the war. Get your gorgeous ass over here. :jonny5:

What an amazing first outing sonically. So frustrating she had to go through so much drama to get to this point but the music is truly excellent and I'm really glad it got to see the light of day. Even 1:59 sounded way better as an album track vs. standalone.

I honestly loved all of the songs but top 3 from the new stuff would be Still, All Yours and Lights On. Distance and Tantrums honorable mention!

I love this record so much. My only suggestion would be some extra tracks in the style of Candy Paint because that's one of my favourites of hers. My suggestion would be to listen to the record with the bass boosted because I think the bass is a really important part of this record - the production has decided to have the bass and Normani's vocal as the key parts of the track so I think boosting the bass makes it stand out more and have a more sublime, satisfying listen.

I think it was worth the wait in theory because the quality is great. However it would have been great to have a body of work out in 2019/20 so that we could have tracked her progression as an artist. Hopefully she has some visuals coming!

I would categorise Janet as a pop artist first but her music is also very R&B in style with a bit of funk too. Her work is pretty much halfway between pop and r&b in my view. I think it's debatable what genre she fits most into, which you could say about a lot of other artists too. I definitely agree with the idea that people tend to think black women = r&b and white = pop, there have been so many amazing black pop artists.
