People probably don't know how bad slavery was in the Danish, Swedish and Dutch colonies. The Dutch in particular were very brutal. But we all know about slavery that happened in the British colonies and US South. I can guarantee you a random person wouldn't even know that it was Portugal who started the transatlantic slave trade. I'm black and I didn't know that I knew they were part of it but not that they were the first and the worst, crazy.

This is really just empty words from our President and a nice distraction from his current controversies and corruption. 3
Movimento Perpétuo Posted April 24 Posted April 24 It's weird how this is not making any huge news here in Brazil. I think a lot of brazilians (especially afro-brazilians and native-brazilians) are not buying Portugal's apologize....can't blame them tho.
Gesamtkunstwerk Posted April 25 Posted April 25 Embarrassing af that Denmark is a tiny country, but were one of the biggest slave traders. Yet most people here are quick to polish their halo because UK or France was worse
Kitty Kat Posted April 29 Posted April 29 https://www.rte.ie/news/europe/2024/0428/1446106-portugal-colonialism-reparations/ Portuguese government says no to paying reparations.
