Finally! It took them long enough. I'm brazilian, and knowing that they never recognized their own genocide towards our people was enfuriating. If they were once a rich country, it was because of OUR gold.

I think it's because we live in a very Anglocentric world. People probably don't know how bad slavery was in the Danish, Swedish and Dutch colonies. The Dutch in particular were very brutal. But we all know about slavery that happened in the British colonies and US South. I can guarantee you a random person wouldn't even know that it was Portugal who started the transatlantic slave trade.

I'm black and I didn't know that :rip:

I knew they were part of it but not that they were the first and the worst, crazy.

After the recent parliamentary elections that gave more seats than ever to the far-right, not only there wouldn't exist that kind of political support but also I don't think we would have the amount of money for historical reparations going back centuries. This is really just empty words from our President and a nice distraction from his current controversies and corruption.

It's weird how this is not making any huge news here in Brazil. I think a lot of brazilians (especially afro-brazilians and native-brazilians) are not buying Portugal's apologize....can't blame them tho.

Embarrassing af that Denmark is a tiny country, but were one of the biggest slave traders. Yet most people here are quick to polish their halo because UK or France was worse :skull:
