Jack Antonoff has been the popular 'go to' producer of choice for several MPG's and also various alt. leaning female artists for several years now.  He has worked with various illustrious industry heavyweights including Taylor, Lana, Lorde and St Vincent.

Objectively there appears to be a consensus that the Aaron Dessner produced tracks from Taylor's brand new magnum opus "The Tortured Poets Department", are of better quality and generally have a greater repeat playability factor than the Jack Antonoff produced tracks.

Entirely separately from Taylor's new album, Lorde was asked to change things up by her label UMG after the perceived underperformance of her Jack Antonoff produced third studio album "Solar Power" and as a result he is not involved with her fourth as she seeks to revitalise her commercial fortunes.

For a long time many Lana fans were happy with the ongoing creative partnership between Lana and Jack but as time passes her fanbase have become steadily more critical of Jack's work and a growing (no longer insignificant) proportion of her fanbase are increasingly voicing concern about Jack.

Many of you will have listened to at least one (or more) of the aforementioned artists and by volition of that, their work with Jack which in some cases spans several era's of your fave's career.

What is your opinion of Jack's more recent production work? In your view has it got better, worse or stayed the same?

Jack is a victim of his own success and I think as his catalogue of work grew he ran out of new and innovative tricks.

I think he needs to go back to basics and hone his craft a bit more. He's one of the most talented producers out there, but he needs to find some new sound and stop making every artist he works with gradually sound like Bleachers.

The Anthology side kinda threw Jack under the bus…. Aaron brings better stuff from Taylor. She still needs fresh blood after this

His last good project for another artist was Lana's Ocean Blvd. But I fear for her next album with him. However, the thing is, Lana seems to still have a lot of say when it comes to production while working with him

The difference between Lana and Taylor is Taylor goes to the studio with Jack and she giggles and high fives him after hearing him mix Pro Tools for 5 mins, while Lana steps on his crotch and makes him actually work on the song.

Lorde's decision to not work with him on L4 was Lorde's decision and had NOTHING to do with her label. Her label is UMG and she owns her masters, they know she's just an alt pop girlie who releases quality albums every 3-4 years and disappears. No one is forcing her for anything. They also apparently beefed / had a falling out with Jack and they're not on good terms anymore.

Solar Power was a good album and had one of Jack's most original productions in his recent works. The Path, The Man With The Axe / Fallen Fruit / Mood Ring / Oceanic Feeling and more sounds nothing like what he's been producing for his other girls these days. If your viewpoint is still "it's all artist's fault and producer adds nothing to an album" then good for Lorde for causing Jack Antonoff to still switch up things a bit on his current uninspired, lost era.

When L4 severely gags I wonder will you suddenly start saying "producers did a good job" instead of crediting Lorde for how good it will be.

You are entitled to your perception of a specific artist's relationship dynamic with their record label.

However any record label seeks to re-coup as much profit as possible from the creative output of the artists they work with and are therefore also entitled to (and have a vested financial interest) in expressing their own view as to how that profit can me maximised in the long term.

This is not a Lorde centric thread.

I understand that this is not a Lorde centric thread and I agree with your points about Jack Antonoff

However on your question you literally directly wrote that Lorde is working with new producers on L4 "because her label told her to do that" and "she's looking for commercial fortune" - while she never ever cared about chart performances or commercial success. It was her decision to find new producers, this had nothing to do with the label.

She literally always speaks up about these and tells us directly in interviews, song lyrics, and more....

Nobody is naive enough to not have a working knowledge of the dark art of public relations or how PR works and is communicated by an artist to their public.

He worked with so many different artists they all started sounding like each other and it seems that hindered his creative process and innovation

Better than dated poppers bath house music that you have to listen to to remind you of the last time your fav had ambition 15 years ago.

These two productions released in the last 2 years sound nothing alike

Yeah although I love the songs he made on TTPD and Midnights, you can tell he's making Bleachers music instead of individually crafting the sound for each artist.
Solar Power was amazing but even then he replicated it for Daddy's Home

Jack is fantastic, but it depends on the vision of the artist he's working with.  Taylor just wasn't feeling it this era and that's why her album is boring.
