X~MoviePoP Posted April 18 Posted April 18 Ive been on a daily intermittent fast for 2 months now and i finally weighed myself. I lost 13 pounds. It was hard for the first week or so and took dedication but i was fasting everyday and only eating 2 times after 8pm. Sometimes id only eating 1 meal for a full 24 hour period. It was a goal to help tone and lose more body fat but im already naturally slim toned but i wanted to focus on face fat and ab definition while doing cardio. Thoughts? Have you had any similar success with fasting?? 1

Sad Beautiful Tragic Posted April 18 Posted April 18 So you've lost 5kg. That's not much considering the fact that you're literally fasting. I wouldn't say it's effective long-term, though. If you want a toned body or to lose weight, I suggest a mix of a very low-calorie diet, weight training, and intense cardio. 4
Anthinos Posted April 18 Posted April 18 Because you get into a calorie deficit? IF is far too stressful for me. I switched from a vegetarian to a vegan diet and lost weight as a result. If you eat a healthy, plant-based diet, you'll lose weight quickly 4 1
Cheers Posted April 18 Posted April 18 Because you're eating less calories? Its literally all about calories in and calories out for weight loss lol 7
KatyPrismSpirit Posted April 18 Posted April 18 you lose fat with a calorie deficit and if you move 3
ATRL Moderator feelslikeadream Posted April 18 ATRL Moderator Posted April 18 I asked my doctor about this and he was very emphatic about it being disordered eating and told me to just eat less caloric foods if I want to lose a couple pounds. Will be interesting to see how this trend ages. 1 5
Trent W Posted April 18 Posted April 18 It really works, I've been doing it for almost a year The only bad thing is that you can lose muscle(at least in my case) So I have to eat more meals in my eating window or cancel the fasting for weeks to build up some muscle back. 1 1

My nutritionist gave it a while back to me just told me to maybe not over do it, but there's people who've been doing it for years and they are super healthy Also intermittent fasting is not a trend is being around for a millennia and a lot of religions/spiritual communities practice it all the time 1
wildsidenormani Posted April 18 Posted April 18 It's not so much about the caloric deficit which others are suggesting, although that does help. It's more to do with how it regulates your insulin levels as you're less likely to have massive blood glucose spikes throughout the day 2

Almighty Gaga Posted April 18 Posted April 18 Because your body starts by burning food then starts burning fat. If you're eating every 8 hours, your body doesn't get to the stage where it's burning fat. It barely burns the food then you eat again and the cycle restarts. But if you're fasting for 16 hours, let's say it burns the food for 10 hours then starts burning your fat for 6 hours. And yes, it definitely works. 1
Leptine Posted April 18 Posted April 18 You can tell by certain comments in here some people don't know how 'intermittent fasting' works, you can still assume a big daily quantitative of calories if you're not doing it correctly in the window you're allowed to eat, for absurd you can do an intermittent fast with McDonald's food and that won't obviously work in order to stay healthy and losing weight, so it's not about food deprivation, but timing-schedule of eating. You still need in first a healthy diet in order to get the best benefits out of it, so the generalizations about how this is not good are pointless since everybody can do it differently, if done correctly it obviously has health benefits, fasting as always been proven to have health benefits, it's how you do that makes the difference. 1
Khal Posted April 18 Posted April 18 Yep. It's the only thing that worked for me when I wanted to lose covid weight. Counting calories is stressful because then I have to be overly conscious of what I eat, and I don't have time for that. With intermittent fasting, I could eat whatever I wanted, fast, repeat and still lose weight. 1
Revolution Posted April 18 Posted April 18 Because you are eating less. But you could also just do that without the fasting gimmick 2
shinyshimmery Posted April 18 Posted April 18 lol, back in the day we used to call this disordered eating. It's always been known that if you want to be thin, you eat less. I personally did IF inadvertently when I was in college, but I was so miserable and always out of energy. Now, I couldn't fathom keeping up with this lifestyle, what if I want to go out to brunch with friends... I don't want to be the party pooper and not eat. 1

Anomaly Posted April 18 Posted April 18 (edited) Because IF is great as it regulates insulin sensitivity/blood glucose in your body to promote fat loss. Also it keeps you from overeating. Nobody needs three meals in a day. 1 hour ago, ImpressMeMuch said: https://newsroom.heart.org/news/8-hour-time-restricted-eating-linked-to-a-91-higher-risk-of-cardiovascular-death shortcuts are never the best option Very flawed study from the same American "Heart" Association that places its heart healthy logo on foods like processed kids cereal, fake butter, beyond meat, and chocolate milk loaded with added sugar. Much of the AHA's funding comes from ultra processed food manufacturers and big pharma companies who make more money off of Americans eating more meals (especially from breakfast). This observational study finding IF unhealthily does a poor job at controlling variables like smoking and drinking habits. It is designed to create doubt and fear in consumers in order to get them to consume more. This same strategy was previously used by the tobacco industry in order to make smoking seem healthy. IF is not a shortcut. It is one of the best ways to lose fat and stay healthy. Many more reliable studies also show it fights against cancer and promotes epigenetic rejuvenation. Edit: I want to be sure to clarify. DO NOT STARVE YOURSELF! Be sure to eat a filling amount of calories while intermittent fasting and you will still lose weight. Edited April 18 by Anomaly 3
CottageHore Posted April 18 Posted April 18 Any time you significantly (or even slightly) cut calorie intake over an extended period of time, you will lose fat and weight on the scale. The intermittent fasting method is said to be helpful because the lack of a blood sugar spike for most of the day while remaining active ensures that the energy you're using is being burned from fat stores. With intermittent fasting, the goal isn't to restrict calories, it's just to eat what you'd typically eat in one very condensed period. There are many long-term health benefits associated with eating in a short window of time. The reason you're dropping fat likely has more to do with how few calories you're consuming compared to how many you're burning in total.

Lower insulin means you'll burn more fat and go into a ketosis like state. The same reason the keto diet works. IF + keto-like diets are best for weight loss.
