Blade Runner Posted June 18 Posted June 18 So tell me everything is not about me But what if it is? Then say they didn't do it to hurt me But what if they did? Literally the best musical moment of the year. Prophetic. 9
niiall Posted June 18 Posted June 18 (edited) I touched you for only a fortnight I touched you, but I touched you I keep going to listen to the album but get stuck on this 80's masterpiece. And the outro is so underrated. Thought of calling ya, but you won't pick up 'Nother fortnight lost in America Move to Florida, buy the car you want But it won't start up 'til I touch, touch, touch you LOST IN AMERICA would've been an iconic album title with a road trip/americana theme inspired by the legendary U.S. leg. Holiest Dreams Posted June 18 Posted June 18 How do I explain this? I think The Anthology is more of a quality collection of songs than the standard — it has more all-time career highlights than the standard album. However, it lacks cohesion both sonically and narratively. It can sort of drag on when there are acoustic guitar tracks or piano ballads back to back (to back). But still, the songs themselves are so ******* amazing that I stand by my belief that it's the best work she's put out to date. Just maybe not the singular best album. In that sense, the standard works better as an album. You can feel a narrative building and various sonic climaxes throughout it. I actually think they did an amazing job with the standard tracklist - yes, even the ICDIWABH placement between loml & TSMWEL. It perfectly gives off that manic vibe she's trying to convey. Anyway, considering all of this, maybe each side is on an equal footing for me? If I really had to pick I'd put The Anthology over the standard for me, but each has different strengths and things I like… or even dislike. I'm glad both parts have a different sound and offer a lot to fans, even if people won't like all 31(!!!) tracks. 3

Yes, I'm talking to you, ***** ** *****. Well, you said it. Spoiler They are trying way too hard all up and down this forum nnnn
1989 Posted June 18 Posted June 18 Anyway, I have finally landed on my trilogy: 1. The Prophecy 2. Clara Bow 3. Who's Afraid Of Little Old Me? Interestingly enough, all three songs are about Taylor herself, two dealing with her relationship with fame. Her introspective writing on this album is so, so good. And in case anyone cares, I count TTPD + TA as one album, and I'm guessing that's because I've taken to mostly listening to it on shuffle. It's really hard for me to separate the two now. An incredible body of work. 2
Peak Now Posted June 18 Posted June 18 Maybe it's the Stockholm speaking but Fortnight is kinda hitting lately The gradual build up throughout the song...the vocal layers... Posty sounding like he finally laid off the cigarettes in the outro... Florida... oh chef's kiss 1

I mean, if It wasnt for Cardigan being her best song ever, Fortnight would be her best lead no questions asked. It's SOTY and i dont care what anyone says. What a SONG. When she takes over Post's verse at the very end with "in Ameeeeerica", it's so beautiful and that part immediately takes me to the music video where in that exact shot she looks like literal ROYALTY. Fortnight will never be so difficult to top as a lead omg
mypaintoyou Posted June 18 Posted June 18 (edited) So the "I'll never leave, never mind" do you take it as her leaving?, or the person leaving her ? Edited June 18 by mypaintoyou

Mandalore Posted June 18 Posted June 18 (edited) @PoisonedIvy Spoiler When you say "I'm annoyed at the online hate not because of the criticism lobbied towards her, but because (1) it doesn't actually affect her career but everyone is rejoicing as if it does and (2) she is almost certainly going to "reclaim" this online hate train in her reputation TV narrative and the hardcore fans are going to overhype it to hell and back. It's a lose lose all around for people with fully developed frontal lobes. " Do you mean the hate is valid because of a silly YBWM dance? What other "criticism" of her do you condone? So you would rather it affects her career? You don't think she's entitled to mock and "reclaim" this pathetic hate wave? Enlighten me please, Swiftie with a fully developed frontal lobe! People can criticize her all they want, some criticisms are fair, valid, thorough, and well articulated. Most of it these days is sensationalized rubbish though. Are you ok? Did I strike a nerve? I'm actually a little confused right now I love her, I think we don't need her to recycle the same narrative from reputation 1.0 in the TV's promo, but she can do whatever she wants. I'm not stopping her and I will still be consuming the music like I always have Edited June 18 by PoisonedIvy

I think the criticism of her dancing is a sensationalized overreaction. I think it's "cool" and "easy" to spew hate at her right now, without actually reflecting on what is even being thrown her way. It's a lose lose because the fans have to defend her from things she shouldn't even need defense from, because she shouldn't be getting attacked for it in the first place. They're wasting their time making unfair criticisms and fans waste their time defending her from people that are never going to stop disliking her. Its just cognitive dissonance all around. Everyone should chill out and either enjoy her music or not enjoy her music. But that's idealistic and not gonna happen. I'm sorry if my statement was confusing but, to be clear, I am not supporting the ridiculous online hate that gets spewed her way 1
Squall Posted June 18 Posted June 18 Do you guys remember the article that was released some months (?) ago listing artists using autoplay on Spotify and Taylor wasn't in it? There was an ATRK thread but I can't find it anymore and I don't remember the publication

Anyway, she's in such a different stratosphere of fame and success than she was on back during the OG Rep era. She's literally breaking attendance records and touring the world as social media implodes with envy. (one platform really, facebook stan her hard , tiktok is a lot more nuanced and sane and that's probably because people have to put their actual faces with they shitty takes and say it with their chest) Edited June 18 by Mandalore 1

Same as ATRL, just at a slightly bigger scale. The other day I literally laughed at the thought of getting worked up over like "12" likes on a post spewing disdain towards her on here. I can't believe we let that get under our skin sometimes when that isn't even a fraction of a percent of the people that actually DO like her. It's so easy to focus on the negative in the moment, we all need to work on tuning it out. Cause it's only gonna get worse until she stops the tour and stops putting out albums, cause her domination probably isn't going anywhere at this point. 4
