Taylor Swift - 'THE TORTURED POETS DEPARTMENT'

Anyway, I have finally landed on my trilogy:

1. The Prophecy

2. Clara Bow

3. Who's Afraid Of Little Old Me?

Interestingly enough, all three songs are about Taylor herself, two dealing with her relationship with fame. Her introspective writing on this album is so, so good. And in case anyone cares, I count TTPD + TA as one album, and I'm guessing that's because I've taken to mostly listening to it on shuffle. It's really hard for me to separate the two now. An incredible body of work.

The Black Dog is in my top 10 and has been since day one. :jonny5:How Did It End? is also another favorite; if it's not top 10 for me, it's gotta be close. :clap3:

@PoisonedIvy

Spoiler

When you say  "I'm annoyed at the online hate not because of the criticism lobbied towards her, but because (1) it doesn't actually affect her career but everyone is rejoicing as if it does and (2) she is almost certainly going to "reclaim" this online hate train in her reputation TV narrative and the hardcore fans are going to overhype it to hell and back. It's a lose lose all around for people with fully developed frontal lobes. "

Do you mean the hate is valid because of a silly YBWM dance? What other "criticism" of her do you condone?

So you would rather it affects her career?

You don't think she's entitled to mock and "reclaim" this pathetic hate wave?

Enlighten me please, Swiftie with a fully developed frontal lobe!

People can criticize her all they want, some criticisms are fair, valid, thorough, and well articulated. Most of it these days is sensationalized rubbish though. Are you ok? Did I strike a nerve? I'm actually a little confused right now

I love her, I think we don't need her to recycle the same narrative from reputation 1.0 in the TV's promo, but she can do whatever she wants. I'm not stopping her and I will still be consuming the music like I always have

I'm just trying to understand what you're saying that's why I'm asking questions. This was what you had to say in response to literal nonsense Twitter brain rot about a silly 10 sec dance. I fail to understand how this  "but because (1) it doesn't actually affect her career but everyone is rejoicing as if it does and (2) she is almost certainly going to "reclaim" this online hate train in her reputation TV narrative and the hardcore fans are going to overhype it to hell and back." is a lose lose situation?

You didn't strike a nerve and if you weren't a fan I wouldn't give a Ratty's ass about your opinion truly. But you are, and we're here.

I think the criticism of her dancing is a sensationalized overreaction. I think it's "cool" and "easy" to spew hate at her right now, without actually reflecting on what is even being thrown her way. It's a lose lose because the fans have to defend her from things she shouldn't even need defense from, because she shouldn't be getting attacked for it in the first place. They're wasting their time making unfair criticisms and fans waste their time defending her from people that are never going to stop disliking her. Its just cognitive dissonance all around. Everyone should chill out and either enjoy her music or not enjoy her music.

But that's idealistic and not gonna happen. I'm sorry if my statement was confusing but, to be clear, I am not supporting the ridiculous online hate that gets spewed her way :rip:

Do you guys remember the article that was released some months (?) ago listing artists using autoplay on Spotify and Taylor wasn't in it? There was an ATRK thread but I can't find it anymore and I don't remember the publication :rip:

Okay I get it now, I was just confused with the way it was worded. Anyway, she's in such a different stratosphere of fame and success than she was on back during the OG Rep era. She's literally breaking attendance records and touring the world as social media implodes with envy. (one platform really, facebook stan her hard :deadbanana2:, tiktok is a lot more nuanced and sane and that's probably because people have to put their actual faces with they shitty takes and say it with their chest)

Yeah twitter's "viral" tweets don't faze me because it's the same subcircle of people who never liked her circle jerking each other over and over again. Same as ATRL, just at a slightly bigger scale.

The other day I literally laughed at the thought of getting worked up over like "12" likes on a post spewing disdain towards her on here. I can't believe we let that get under our skin sometimes when that isn't even a fraction of a percent of the people that actually DO like her. It's so easy to focus on the negative in the moment, we all need to work on tuning it out. Cause it's only gonna get worse until she stops the tour and stops putting out albums, cause her domination probably isn't going anywhere at this point. :rip:

Tbh the only time I engage with it here is when I see something worth mocking :dies: These forum hags (no offense to those aging gracefully) can be so stupid I just have to laugh. As for everything else, it's not gonna go away and she won't be slowing down anytime soon until December at the earliest so buckle up and enjoy as the Twitter vibes community tries so hard to make a narrative that translates into the actual world and fails miserably.

I also think there has been a shift in Taylor herself where she doesn't even try to cater to anyone anymore (even her fans) and is just doing whatever the hell she wants. She's moving in the industry like a pro athlete, must be all the hanging out she's been doing around them. :eli:

Also my algorithm must be perfectly in tune because I genuinely don't even see the negativity and I engage with Taylor content a lot.

It was from Spotify themselves

Any praise or drag will never make people change their mind if they already like her or hate her anyway. The only thing that could truly impact her popularity and standing with her fans and the GP would be a true assassination of her character, and when the worst she's doing is releasing variants, I think she'll be more than fine.

Also, if anything, someone neutral to her that is exposed to this "hate train" will most likely be sick of the hate before they are sick of Taylor herself, who's pretty much done nothing this year since the Superbowl outside of releasing music/playing concerts (which... is her job as an artist). That's already happening with certain members on ATRL that used to get their kiis in the hate threads and that are now showing they're tired of it.

But at the same time, why would people stop dragging her when it's the most engagement they'll ever receive?

Literally this, the fact that tweets are monetized now is the real incentive behind it. :dies: Agree with everything you said though. She's doing nothing but her job and these people keep throwing good karma her way for no reason. :katie2:

Completely agree. I think sometimes we tend to let ourselves be worked up over the hate when in reality it's only 50-60 people at BEST doing it on ATRL. Such a small amount of people is not worth getting worked up over.

My biggest issue has always been with the mods letting this sh*t happen more than the hate itself.
