McNulty Posted May 11 Posted May 11 I feel terrible for Richard Gadd and the fact he had to recreate his rapes for the show is brutal. one of the best work that talks about SA and its different effects 3 1

Jglj Posted May 12 Posted May 12 Finally finished it, a difficult watch, not only for the dark themes, but also I felt the first 3 episodes were a bit of a slog. Overall great writing and acting, incredible how vulnerable and strong the creator is not only to write it but to act in it, basically reliving it all. Spoiler I felt it was a really strong depiction of mental illness and also the turmoil abuse victims go through. The character coming to terms with how he dealt with it was very well done, his conversation with his dad was heartbreaking.

Also does it have any difficult scenes to watch? As in triggering? I wanna watch a series with the family but need to be careful with these scenes as they hate them.

I actually don't recall nudity Mm tbh I wouldn't recommend seeing it with family if that's the case 1

Just started watching now and I'm HOOKED. Very psychological. Right up my alley. I don't know If I feel sorry for her or I'm scared.

UnusualBoy Posted May 13 Posted May 13 I binge-watched it this past weekend and it was good. For a moment you kind of feel bad for Martha but she was sick and she got to far, at some point I felt like he could've stopped the whole thing but after seeing what he went through I understood that it was more than we just thought. 2
Miles. Posted May 13 Posted May 13 This was spectacular. Wow. So glad it's creating so much conversation and these issues are being talked about. Hope it wins all the awards. 2

Made me feel more uncomfortable than watching the actual show I think you can still be frustrated by him at times when he essentially makes the situation worse for himself and those around him, but still understand why he did what he did. I think it makes it more realistic, as many SA or abuse stories aren't usually just black and white. 1
Uncatena Posted May 14 Posted May 14 You know all this talk online about media literacy being a dying thing and some of the reaction and aftermath of this show really encapsulates that really well... 1
Almodusa Posted May 14 Posted May 14 Gotham TV Awards nominations: - Breakthrough Limited Series - Outstanding Performance in a Limited Series (Richard Gadd) 2
Julianna Calm Down Posted May 14 Posted May 14 Yeah this dragged on a bit and became a bit repetitive to hold my interest enough toward the end. I appreciate some parts of it, and it's very different to other shows out there. But could perhaps have been a bit compressed and not so longwinded. Found it very dark, which I suppose was the intention. The similarity between the real Martha and the actress's portrayal on the show was strikingly similar. Has Gadd or Netflix released the receipts yet, do we know?
shyboi Posted May 19 Posted May 19 does this makes you uncomfortable? i am not in the mood for that right now

It won't be boring when it's much deserved. Especially considering wha the material is about. It's important for this show to sweep especially to bring light to its theme

Made me feel more uncomfortable than watching the actual show What's crazy is that if the gender roles were reversed this wouldn't be the case. Men can be victims of sexual assault and abuse as well. This is why it's important to believe so that it's more common to report. Watching this show has been difficult especially in light of the Diddy and Cassie situation. 20 hours ago, nasa said: This was so boring It's about sexual assault and abuse ... 1
