vale9001 Posted April 15 Posted April 15 (edited) Blur's Damon Albarn blasts apathetic Coachella crowd and vows not to return as fans call audience a 'disgrace' for staying silent during their set: 'You're never seeing us again, so you might as well f****** sing it' "Blur's Damon Albarn has slammed the crowd at Coachella, while fans branded the festival goers as 'embarrassing' after their apathetic reaction during the band's set. The iconic Britpop band played a 13-song set at the California-based music festival, including 90s classics like Girls & Boys, Popscene and Song 2. However, the audience at their set was less than enthusiastic, with their apathy becoming apparent to the band onstage. Lead singer Damon could be seen looking increasingly irritated as he attempted to engage with the crowd to no avail. For their 1994 hit Girls & Boys, the musician tried to get everyone to sing along to the chorus multiple times, but it was radio silent. Frustrated he declared that the band would not be returning to the festival, saying: 'You're never seeing us again, so you might as well f****** sing it'." Girl if they don't know you they don't know you. Popular Post Chemist Posted April 15 Popular Post Posted April 15 Artists should know by now that the majority of Coachella attendees are less concerned with the music itself and more focused on sharing photos of their outfits and let everybody know that they were at Coachella. 23 1

It's not even about that. This generation is simply unaware of Blur, unless you're specifically into 90s music. Even at their peak they never translated to super fame in the US. They have like 2 moderate hits here. Local legacy act band so I don't know why he's surprised. Also, kinda funny because he's such a pretentious hag. 7 2

Or at least not on the main stage right before the headliner.
getBusy Posted April 15 Posted April 15 (edited) Damon being publicly humilliated? Love this. He was such an a**hole back in the day. Karma is a b*tch indeed. Edited April 15 by getBusy

Also, kinda funny because he's such a pretentious hag. it is a bit about that. Coachella started as a grass-roots indie music festival and indie fans (young and old) are quite passionate about Blur in both sides of the Atlantic. It is obviously not like that anymore, so some artists should stop acting like playing at Coachella is some sort of honor 4
Suilen Posted April 15 Posted April 15 Should've performed She's My Collar if he wanted the crowd to go wild. 3
Dante Silva Posted April 15 Posted April 15 It makes no sense they'd even be there. They never broke the U.S.

Reginald Posted April 15 Posted April 15 ngl, Coachella is seeming more and more cringe every year. The insufferable influencers have taken away so much of the appeal. I would never want to go there to see my favorite artists. 2
Gossip_Boy Posted April 15 Posted April 15 I mean he's old and from an era where coachella was actually about the music. Now it's essentially a convention for influencers and insta thots so he isn't exactly wrong. 2
Gui Blackout Posted April 15 Posted April 15 Coachella crowds don't even sing for well know/current artists, let alone a 90s band that no one in the US knows Anyway, Tayvoodoo never fails

ArtForFreedom Posted April 15 Posted April 15 Girls and boys was released probably before most of the attendees were born and it wasn't a major hit in the US so what was he expecting

It's a completely different type of person attending, and it's more evident than ever as they have completely taken over. Not even just an age thing. These crowds are dead dead. Someone pointed out they all don't want to shout, move, or otherwise mess up the footage they're filming on their phones & it completely makes sense. Edited April 15 by eleganceislearned
