BYoncé Posted April 11 Posted April 11 Good god what has become of the UK, I feel so sad for any trans people stuck living there. 3
JonginBey Posted April 11 Posted April 11 They should tackle their terrible homing insulation before summer arrives and sit this one out. 2 1
Grizzo Posted April 11 Posted April 11 depressing news :( do they want trans people to suffer? (yeah don't even answer to this question we already know they do and they're just hiding behind fake concerns)
Hephaestus Posted April 11 Posted April 11 Can these bigots just mind their own business and let people live? Like damn...
STARFUCKER Posted April 11 Posted April 11 And then when they don't "pass" as well as they would if they transitioned younger, they will then get ridiculed and bullied by the same group of people that are claiming they are protecting children 6
Yawn Posted April 11 Posted April 11 this island is increasingly evil. stuck between two despicable governments
CallumDavies Posted April 11 Posted April 11 I don't agree with some of the conclusions of the report, but I think it's important to stay factual in critique of it. The report doesn't suggest preventing people from under 25 from transitioning. The use of transition in this context refers to move from child care to adult case. The report instead suggests consistent care up to the age of 25 to support people who are transitioning. I feel like that's quite an important point. 1
CLNC Posted April 11 Posted April 11 (edited) There was a brief moment between the Cass Report being published and Streeting tweeting his response that Labour centrists were outraged at this clearly transphobic ill researched report. Then Streeting said he wanted to implement the findings and at the snap of a finger they changed to "well maybe trying to legislate trans people from existence is the sensible pragmatic approach". toy soldier. Posted April 11 Posted April 11 The UK is literally falling apart and all they care about is trans issues...oh ok 3

You're citing the suggestion 17-25's be seen through a special service yet the report says such be done *in place* of traditional care via gender clinics trans adults currently have the right to. The "care" it says those who aren't minors "should" receive is in the context of that it says minors should receive NO care, not even gender affirmation and things like socially transition, which is argues "locks in" people "to medical pathways" that it is arguing against. How is your takeaway that they're suggesting "consistent care" for those 17-25 when recommending that those 17-25 not access adult clinics either because it deems they too are not yet ready for "life-changing choices"? And need instead "holistic therapy"? If someone is 24 and is reporting for years feelings of gender dysphoria, why would they be recommended to a youth clinic who would start them on a years-long "holistic" care approach of first therapy to sway them away from social and physical transition? It's disingenuous to believe the report somehow is wanting to expand care for those 17-25 and arguing such would be a clear example of not understanding how gatekeeping works within a medical context. It essentially recommends the entire process of transitioning - from affirmation in your gender by loved ones and peers to social transition to physical transition - be moved back years and years and largely take place in adulthood. Reginald Posted April 11 Posted April 11 First they target minorities. Then they target you. If you aren't trans and aren't worried, you should be. 2
qurl Posted April 11 Posted April 11 the UK should focus more on its failing economy than banning trans ppl 1
Princess Aurora Posted April 11 Posted April 11 What is going on with this transphobic rhetoric over there? Nobody cared until 2018/2019.
Vermillion Posted April 11 Posted April 11 The entire point is to start resolving this during puberty to prevent lifelong trauma. But I feel this sticking point will never be resolved, and the comparatively minuscule amount of detransitioners will continue to be used as pawns. Sigh.
