Who told her, a white woman from London to give her input? Her comments come across as extremely bitter and jealous.

Legends like Dolly, Paul McCartney and Willie Nelson praise Beyoncé, that's all that matters not was this woman who hasn't had a song in the charts since the Obama administration has to say.

Apart from cheating on her then husband, Lily also admitted to sleeping with a married man as well: https://www.google.com/amp/s/www.thesun.co.uk/tvandshowbiz/7267948/lily-allen-liam-gallagher-sex-japan/amp/

Is this jolene cover (i mean a cover of jolene in 2024) the only talked thing of this album? Says a lot about the rest of the material :lakitu:

She's entitled to her opinion, but what I find very weird is that out of everything it's Jolene that's causing discourse :deadbanana2:

That's because the original is such a hit, its popularity and appeal has been mainstay for decades. Lily was right when she said it's one of the genres biggest songs. Personally, I found that in making a "you best not come for my man" kinda song it literally tore the country element right out of it. We have two million songs like that, we have another two million "don't leave me's". The general appeal of Jolene as a song is the vulnerability and acknowledgment that the other woman could quite easily take what she has and that expressed plea for her to be sisterly. There aren't any other songs like that and that's why this original stuck around so long. I love Beyoncé dearly, but her confidence in Jay-Z's fidelity is kinda contradicted by the need to warn Jolene and is almost laughable given Dolly's reference to the woman who he cheated with seconds before the song plays. It gives insecure but not vulnerability.

The cover is really divisive, I've seen people saying they hate it. then again I know others who think it's really fun and creative.

as long as people are talking about it, Bey is winning

We haven't forgotten that Lily Allen also decided to shade Beyoncé unnecessarily on her 2014 single "Sheezus". Seems like somebody needs to go back to the drawing board, but it sure ain't Beyoncé.

That wasn't shade though? That entire song is meant to be tongue in cheek and she's name dropping artists she admires. The back to the drawing board comment was a reference to how Beyonce changed the entire course of her career with self-titled and changed the way people release music.

It's quite telling that most people's response to Lily's comments are to call her a flop or bring up random aspects of her personal life.

I think the point she's trying to make is the song Jolene (along with 9 to 5) is Dolly Parton's signature song. There's a lot more faceless country songs that would've worked just as well, but when you cover a song so closely tied to the original recording artist, people are going to struggle to not compare it to the original.

Anyway this quote is taken from a podcast episode, where people do just ramble and give their opinions on random things. It's not like it was in an interview where she sat down to intentionally shade Beyonce. They were literally talking about the album and which songs they did and didn't like.

Uh oh the Jolene Police Women's Desk is here.

They have nothing else to say because A LOT of people don't like the cover. They also don't realise that Lily is the one person you can't really criticise or 'read' about her personal life, because she's the first to criticise herself and put it all out there honestly.

It's just another day of the Beyhive being the most idiotic, braindead standom where absolutely zero criticism is permitted, only unwavering praise of a Goddess amongst men.

Not y'all frantically attacking her for giving an opinion on one song :rip: It's giving cult. You guys can spend every day on here giving out your opinions on music and artists, but when this woman does it she deserves to be attacked on everything from her appearance to her marriage?

Eh, Lily will say anything for a headline. It's not that deep - she clearly doesn't get the context of the record/Dolly begging B to cover it for years.

I just wish she'd spend less time talking **** and more time uploading Party Line on DSPs.

The song is awful and pointless, one of the weakest tracks on an otherwise excellent album.

She should have just said that rather than trying to go about it in some roundabout, try-hard way.

Of course someone with WHITE privilege does not understand the implications of a BLACK artist covering one of the biggest Country songs of all time and making it her own

When its a shitty take, she sure does

:suburban:

Internet makes people think they can be stupid just like that - we can obviously clock her idiotic takes that lack ANY critical thinking and empathy
