PoisonedIvy Posted April 4 Posted April 4 This is a throwback to an interview Taylor gave about 10 years ago. She says she doesn't feel cool, edgy, or sexy, and she doesn't feel the need to be — since those themes are obnoxiously thrust onto young women by the media. Quote I'm 24. I still don't feel like it's a priority for me to be cool, edgy, or sexy. When girls feel like they don't fit into those three themes, which are so obnoxiously thrust upon them through the media, I think the best thing I can do for those girls is let them know that this is what my life looks like. I love my life. I've never ever felt edgy, cool, or sexy. Not one time. And that it's not important for them to be those things. It's important for them to be imaginative, intelligent, hardworking, strong, smart, quick-witted, charming. All these things that I think have gone to the bottom of the list of priorities. I think that there are bigger themes I can be explaining to them, and I think I'm trying as hard as I possibly can to do that. I'm really surprised to hear you say that you never feel cool or edgy or sexy. I mean, you spend a lot of time on red carpets. You go to fashion shows. Those three words don't fit into your view of yourself? Not at all. I mean, going back to your daughter's age, I think a lot of our self-esteem and self-image is frozen in those formative years. And that was not a time in my life where I felt accepted or invited or like I belonged. And so I've kind of come into my own in that I no longer prioritize feeling those things. https://www.npr.org/2014/10/31/359827368/anything-that-connects-a-conversation-with-taylor-swift 1

byzantium Posted April 4 Posted April 4 I would pushback on the claim that she is not edgy. She is not the archetype female pop star. Rather than centering her sexuality, she centered her mind and perspective which gives her music more emotional depth and is itself pretty edgy and against the grain. There is nothing wrong with taking ownership of feminine sexual which itself is pretty radical, but Taylor found herself a different niche that people likewise find threatening. 2 1 7 2 1

Taylor swift has no edge, if she were a geometric shape she'd be a circle 3 1 23 4
mael Posted April 4 Posted April 4 This is why She is the biggest star of Her time. She carved out Her niche.
shyboi Posted April 4 Posted April 4 she's definitely none of those things but she doesn't need them either

Swifties go on and on about misogyny but constantly push the Madonna-***** complex. 3 1 1

fememeist Posted April 4 Posted April 4 A lot has changed since then, and she most likely feels all of these things since
barbiegrande Posted April 4 Posted April 4 (edited) At least she knows she's nothing of the sort. Just a dorky, corny giraffe Edited April 4 by barbiegrande 1 10 3

ShouldersSideways Posted April 4 Posted April 4 (edited) A lot of people don't feel that way which is one of the reasons she has mass appeal. Edited April 4 by ShouldersSideways

Arrows Posted April 4 Posted April 4 (edited) Laugh all you want, but this is why she's so succesful. She's basically the antithesis of every other female pop star. People like her because she isn't very cool, edgy or sexy, like Adele, Ed Sheeran and Harry Potter Edited April 4 by Arrows 1

People like her because she isn't very cool, edgy or sexy, like Adele, Ed Sheeran and Harry Potter True, people are notoriously insecure these days, have no self-confidence and have a really hard time dealing with people who have it all. Thus, they try to knock these people down just to make themselves and their miserable life feel better. 1
