It's supposed to be based in china but they made like 90% of the characters white

have you not watched this yet then? the cast is almost laughably diverse on the english speaking side given that its set in england :toofunny2:

not sure why its not fully set in china thought if its supposed to be but still... certainly wouldnt use the word whitewashed.

Up to #1 WW shows on netflix this week with 15.6M visualizations.

For those naming it as a 'flop' sooner than they should.

I feel like it was released at the wrong time after the gentlemen and avatar. And it needed more space to stand out a bit more. Anyway 26.6M visualizations after 2 weeks (The Gentlemen did 32.3M and Avatar did 41.1M)

The Video Games scene was a whole damn orgasm for my eyes and ears, that was so good :deadbanana4:

I do agree that the final episode was the weakest one, literally nothing happened. I love the plot, the visuals and stuff, but I find the characters so frustrating :deadbanana4: All of them are so annoying except for Wong, Will, Tatiana & Wade.

Let me see what it ends with, thank you books :bird:

It is definitely white washed...why is there no east asian male lead in the friends group. We literally have 2 white guys leading for no reason. Could've made one of them east asian

It really peaked at episode 5, they honestly could have fit the content in episode 6, 7 and 8 in just one episode.

episode 6 and I hear Grimes in the background; nice

edit: omg Lana too :weeps:

I get a lot of the changes, but was caught a bit off guard with facts from book 3 happening in season 1 (I do get why though). I still don't know how to feel about it, I didn't find it bad, maybe a bit bland.

Also I think they could've done better explaining some stuff, and the sword lady representing the San-Ti is a bit camp. I still don't fully trust D&D, I will probably still give season 2 (if it happens) a look, it'd be interesting to see how they adapt some of stuff from the other books.

Loved the premise of this and the general plot and the charaters, but a lot of the dialogue felt off? idk if its the writers or the delivery from the actors, the woman playing Auggie was especially not giving.

It was weird that the pacing changed in the last few eps but apparently that was because they moved on to book 2? Idk, but all that said, I will be tuning in for the second season.

That marine or whatever guy :jonny5:

I think I'll read all 3 books before watching since they seem to move plot all over the place

I love the concept, but the story development makes little sense.

China already has their own adaptation of this novel already (recent and to a moderate success), so they would not want to set it in China.

Couldn't finish it. Stopped watching after ep3. It's too slow, too much of an empty dialogues, the only storyline I was interested in is Ye Wenjie's, but it wasn't shown a lot

The first episode gave me chills omg:jonny5:

second week at #1 WW in it's third week with 8,3M visualizations.

Total after 3 weeks = 34,9M

Avatar after 3 weeks = 50,2M (9,1M 3rd week)

The gentlemen after 3 weeks = 44M (11,7M 3rd week)

This show was very interesting with a fresh take on the aliens invasion argument which I found very intriguing.

Sure the first episodes were kind of confusionary especially with the tech parts explanations, but overall it managed to make sense, sure some parts were messy but overall solid, it's not gonna be easy doing a valid second season.
