Popular Post Virgos Groove Posted March 29 Popular Post Posted March 29 (edited) It's incredible how a technology that could reduce work hours for everyone is instead gonna put everyone on the unemployment registry while billionaires reap the benefits... I hate capitalism. Edited March 29 by Virgos Groove 15 2

Archetype Posted March 29 Posted March 29 It's a major technological evolution which has the possibility of becoming a revolution (as it becomes more sophisticated) in the way work is done and normal people live. Far more than 8 million people are going to be affected. 2
Tropez Posted March 29 Posted March 29 Computers were invented and used in various companies decades ago. They claimed that computers would steal jobs, that many people will be unemployed. There was a lot of distrust towards it. Instead, computers are an aid to millions of people in the workplace. It didn't steal jobs, in fact it gave people increased productivity. Every time a new technology comes around. Humans naturally distrust it, and create think pieces about all the harm it will do. Turns out these new tech gives people more jobs, and increases human productivity. Making the initial concern seem childish. 4 2
byzantium Posted March 29 Posted March 29 This might sound bad, but think of how much money large corporations will save. 1

This is a rosy spin on it, but AI is rapidly evolving, and the IMF reported that it will impact 40% of jobs and worsen inequality. Let's not just shirk off fears as irrational when there are entire creative fields in danger of being rendered obsolete in a relatively short amount of time due to AI's rapidly evolving nature. 2

Do you honest to goodness think it will impact that many people that fast? Do you know how many companies are still using computer software from the 80s/90s? Do you realize how expensive it is to change tech systems? Not to mention there's historical precedence to prove your case to be wrong?

Yeah I even think of my current employer, the number of people I've come across doing jobs that could've been replaced by technology like 15 years ago There's even tasks I find myself doing some days that would be so much quicker with better systems, but if the company doesn't invest in them then what's going to change exactly? 1

Not to mention there's historical precedence to prove your case to be wrong? It's ALREADY impacting a ton of people. The SAG and WGA strikes were in part caused by AI, voice actors are losing roles to AI, audiobook companies are rapidly downsizing. Graphic artists are being phased out as AI can create art faster and cheaper. It's ALREADY impacting tons of industries. Journalism, illustration, voice over, graphic design, acting, modelling, photography, and that's JUST creative fields. 4

I say the same thing every day. There's a few tasks that I do that could honestly be automated that could save me so much time. Leaving me to do something more important. Companies are notoriously slow to update things, and you will notice the higher ups are so tech illiterate. 9 minutes ago, GraceRandolph said: It's ALREADY impacting a ton of people. Or a tv show or album? There isn't any. The tech isn't even close to being there. You'll come to realize a lot of this stuff is media fear-mongering to drive clicks.

In a short period of time AI went from creating images like this: To creating films like this: AI worsening inequality and causing jobs to go obsolete =/= AI is replacing ALL jobs. 1
