The curtains have closed on the Oscars, and as we peer over the horizon following a six-month Hollywood hiatus due to the union strikes, the initial trepidation over a sparse cinematic future will be sure to dissipate once you look at the road ahead. Contrary to fears, the film landscape appears not just replenished but vibrant, with several compelling titles that are already making waves.

 

Warner Bros. leads this promising cadre, already spotlighting Denis Villeneuve’s “Dune: Part Two” as a formidable contender across numerous categories. The studio’s lineup is also bolstered by eagerly anticipated sequels such as George Miller’s “Furiosa: A Mad Max Saga” and Todd Phillips’ “Joker: Folie à Deux.” The latter sees Joaquin Phoenix returning to his Oscar-winning role, with Lady Gaga joining the fray as the tumultuous Harley Quinn.

Universal Pictures hopes to capitalize after winning best picture with Christopher Nolan’s “Oppenheimer,” and get awards play from its commercial offerings, including the film adaptation of “Wicked” with superstars Cynthia Erivo and Ariana Grande.

Paramount Pictures seeks to replicate the success of “Top Gun: Maverick” with Ridley Scott’s “Gladiator 2,” boasting a stellar cast including Paul Mescal and Pedro Pascal.

Disney and its subsidiaries (20th Century Studios, Pixar, Searchlight Pictures and Walt Disney Animation) are poised to captivate audiences with potential blockbusters like “Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes” and sequels to “Inside Out” and “Moana.”

Many of these films may not make it to the Oscars. We'll have to wait until at least October to make predictions because that's when most independent and art house films are released. Also, international films could dominate the Oscars, but it's just too early to tell.

Wicked can be a good holiday musical ala Wonka but come on it's not awards material. Erivo is the only actor has a part could take it if the movie turns to be like big big but i don't see someone made green with cgi for 2 hours of movie being in the oscar discussion .

Also the fact everyone already knows there will be a part 2 the next year doesn't play good for them.

 

As I already said i don't see the academy being interest again on a Joker movie too. One time was enough i think, like for Black Panther. 

 

Zendaya is an average actress at the best. Next.

Guadagnino is that kind of "foreign author" for some time the hollywood actors love cause it gives them that "cool sophisticated vibe" of working with someone not full american (even if this time the movie doesn't have any italian or french producer but it's 100% american) but Academy doesn't like him this much. I don't understand why every time he makes a movie there are these "blind" prediction about Oscars nominations for his movie when after call me by your name every movie by him failed to get even one nomination if i don't forget something (and call me by your name missed the director nod). The tv series he directed recently didn't take love from the emmys too. So he's not like this academies beloved artist, i don't know why people act like this only because one movie got like 3-4 nominations 6-7 years ago by now.
