Dua Lipa - 'Radical Optimism'

Idk I like this album as much as I liked FN (they're both solid albums with high highs and some fillers), it's just missing the entertainment that FN Dua gave us.

Excited for tour, I hope it's as big as FN tour.

Kinda similar trajectory to Dua's career. Debut and Sophomore albums smashing, long gap between 2nd and 3rd album, lead from 3rd album being critically acclaimed but not a gp hit and album being critically panned. Hope the outcome of their careers isn't same…

Not this nnnn

That was back in the 90s. Do you realize we are in 2024 right?

Spotify? Apple Music? Streaming? Tiktok? You know about that right?

I sat with this album for the last couple of days and I'm really loving it. It's a very summer-y, nice breezy day kind of record and it will sound even better as we move into the hotter days of the summer. Ironically, should have switched album titles with Miley because Endless Summer Vacation perfectly fits this one. :skull: It's really a concise, all killer no filler 11 track album overall (although Anything For Love is giving interlude)) and I don't think there are any weak moments here. The production is immaculate, it has the best vocals of her career, and everything else needed for a solid pop album.

That being said, I can't say I'm not disappointed because it's not what I was expecting and it's really her fault dd. There are a lot of small psychedelic details here and there but they got buried in the mix and they're not enough for her to be throwing the word psychedelic around in every single interview.

As a fan who have followed the era from the start, I'm also genuinely confused about the narrative for this album, let alone the average listener? It's giving identity crisis at the Albanian Mafia HQ. And I believe that's one of the reasons it was poorly received critically because narrative is more important than the music itself for many reviewers lol. Future Nostalgia had the 80s/disco revival narrative going for it, Dua made it her mission to deliver THEE Big Pop Era of the decade, then covid happened but she still kept us entertained, and it all paid off. Next time she really should shut up and deliver instead of setting herself up with **** like "psychedelic-pop-infused album influenced by UK rave culture and inspired by acts like Primal Scream and Massive Attack". I imagine the reception would so different if none of that happened because the music itself is good.

I don't think there are any major hits left though, let alone a Levitating. Just keep promoting the album throughout the summer and then drop a deluxe. Glastonbury will be a career defining moment and I'm perched to see how most of these songs sound like live because we were robbed of excellent performances outside of the Grammys/Brits.

My sister who is not a pop music stan has the album on repeat

every time I go downtown in my city Illusion is playing somewhere, maybe it'll be the hit of the era in Mexico

Oh and Houdini has really became my favorite song from her. Still one of the best releases this decade. :bird:

1. Houdini

2. Training Season

3. Falling Forever

4. Illusion

5. These Walls

6. Whatcha Doing

7. End Of An Era

8. Happy For You

9. Maria

10. French Exit

11. Anything For Love

The singles were perfectly picked imo, the timing was just a mess. The lack of Houdini performances is the era's biggest crime. There's a reason the 1 big performance she did was the most viral thing about this era on TikTok.

The way everybody was bopping to End of An Era and Houdini on Saturday when I slipped them into the playlist.

still can't believe we went from the super fresh 'houdini', the abba-esque infectious 'training season' and the stuart-price-at-his-aphrodite-momentum 'illusion' to... this.

it's sad.

Ok we need a new single Miss Lipa :rip:

Give us that damn Watcha Doing Remix f/ Doja like NOW with a colorful fun mv for the summer and then These Walls for the fall with a cute french inspired mv

Not the worst song on the album. The only songs I can see having any success as singles is End of Era, These Walls and Maria.

She's only performing 1-2 album tracks from Radical Optimism, I mean isn't this supposed to be a promotional tour for album, why is she performing FN songs here?!:gaycat6:

You guys keep wishing for music videos and remixes as if she is hitting her marks. Training and illusion tanked. The label does not have endless cash to realize ur wishes. Its called the music business. They put so much money on playlisting, autoplay and radio deals. Its just that people were not streaming her songs. Now why would you put out more money.  The GP doesnt care for Dua this year and i hope all that promo she has coming up help sustain the album cuz its freefalling everywhere.
