Dua Lipa - 'Radical Optimism'

End of an era is bad.

The stretch from Anything but love to the end is bad.

The other 7 strong stretch is decent.  Illusion sounds much better on the album.

Training Season is just a rehash of Houdini but less good.

The three song punch of These Walls, Whatcha doing and French Exit is the best part of the album.

It makes TOTAL sense that Illusion and Whatcha Doing were written within the two days frame from each other. :toofunny3:

This shows in Illusion's hook which definitely should've been edited after Whatcha Doing were written. It could've been edited from "ooh whatcha doing" to like "whoo do you think you're fooling" or at least something else, so I wouldn't incessantly compare them at all.

Anyways....how many deluxe songs are we expecting? Three to four?

Her US sales growing even though she has zero US hits this era is a sign she should have a stable career tbh, Dua Lipa lives! :celestial4:

Well it must be remembered that FN was released during the pandemic and it did not have vinyl or 20 different variants like this one.

I think it is more concerning that the streams are just not there because Week 2 this could suffer a radical drop.

Gawd I just love this album so much. It truly never gets old (it's been one week, but still) :gaycatina1:

I need a list of everyone who shaded Smashini's quality this era, these are the people we know cannot be trusted. The main standout of this album which already has a ton of good songs :katie2:

So true, as much as I love the album I needed like 3 more songs that sounded like the singles

I still wonder what the album could've been if the sound followed Whoudini and Godly Season. Now that could've been her magnum opus.

Houdini and TS being written 2 days apart makes total sense but TS being written before is a kii :dies: truly curious about the other november 22 tracks

Tanking Season is probably the 2nd-3rd worst song on the album for me but that's kinda like being the ugliest girl at Miss Universe so :michael:

I'm hoping the deluxe is 15-19 songs long to really boost streams and give DTN a proper home :gayalipacat3:

Give us another playlist and make the ODHs fume Queen :wanda:

For the AFL girlies, this is a pretty decent fan-made extended version that scratches the itch of how short this song is

Anything For Love has grown on me sooooo much, literally my only complaint is how short it is :rip: I need an official extended mix asap

I mean, the only problem with Anything for Love is the length. The song is amazing.

Not My Problem and GIB remain her worst songs of this decade

She needs to stop running her mouth at interviews and run to rehearsals instead.

I've talked to multiple locals and NO ONE knew she had a new album, let alone a new SONG out. A few of them even follow Dua and when I mentioned "Radical Optimism" they were like "oh that's an album??" They seemed to think it was just a technique Dua was promoting or something. :rip:

She NEEDS to perform everywhere. The biggest mistake this era, apart from the interviews, is her and her team thinking they are past the point where she needs to perform at every other show.

I seriously don't understand some bad reviews and disappointments. Imo, RO is a more consistent and diverse album than FN, which has higher highs but also lower lows. Her voice sounds stronger and has more variety, producers killed it on the album with the drums, synths, a variety of instruments from a flute to a guitar. She has never been a poet but there are many interesting ideas like mature Happy for you and Maria. Houdini is a career highlight and show me another mainstream pop girl who can come back with such a gritty and hypnotic song like this.

The only issues I see is the sudden change of direction from winter to summer (and single releases actually followed time of the season) and extremely high expectations from "psychedelic rave" promises and of course after the successful Future Nostalgia era and Levitating being a massive hit, in particular. Both of which have nothing to do with how actually good every song is on this specific album.

For me it is her best album :celestial5: and definitely needs an extended mix (which will elevate the songs like 3 singles) and deluxe release with more songs.

Boys Will Be Boys is definitely worse than GIB but those 2 + NMP are her bottom 3 of the decade

Idk if people are trying to push the idea that Anything For Love is somehow close to joining that trio but they are beyond delusional if so

If I see one more 'higher highs but lower lows' :suburban:

FN has POP EXCELLENCE, the first 9 songs on that album are tight sequenced pop masterpieces. Nothing on Radical Midimism comes even close. Then song 10 and 11 are a dip in quality but nothing laughably bad or embarrassing. GIB is a fun song and BWBB is her attempt at making a statement, which may not totally work but at least she made the swing (even if it missed)

RO has no such swings, she's not aiming for anything. She's not reaching for the stars like she did on FN. This is her on autopilot and it's a way less enjoyable jumbled mess of ideas, the sequencing sucks, the tracklisting makes no sense, and the overall theme of 'dating' is weak. I'd rather take the two 'lower lows' of FN if that means I get an entire masterclass in pop on the 9 tracks before instead of the album that's bordering on background music

Oh and she also needs to shut the hell up next album cycle, she's clearly delusional and terrible at describing her own music

Big pop moments on FN: Levitating, DSN, Physical, Love Again

Mid-mega flops on FN: GIB, BBWB, Cool

Big pop moments on RO: Houdini

Mid-Mega flops on RO: N/A

Idk, I kinda get it. I do think this needed 1-2 more Houdini level tracks, but I think I prefer the consistency of RO over hearing pop perfection then lazy songs tacked onto the end of FN that seem so much worse in comparison to the excellence I heard before them. If she does RO again for DL4, I'll be annoyed but I'm satisfied with this as a follow-up to FN.

The wobbly background synths on the first verse of Maria(h) serving Impressive Instant :jonny:

The way that this is being treated critically is actually the most surprising to me. I knew the #s wouldn't be strong but the way it's not been afforded "poptimism" is surprising.

Like...Endless Summer SNORE was received more warmly, as were a lot of other 2023-24 pop albums. Is Poptimism over?
