Kayseri Mantisi Posted March 7 Posted March 7 Thoughts about this new Forbes article? Spoiler Dua Lipa is one of the biggest pop stars on the planet right now. For nearly a decade, she’s been charting massive hits and seemingly becoming more and more popular. As she gets ready to deliver her highly-anticipated third album, her latest single is not performing as well as many of her most recent efforts. In fact, it's off to a slow, and rather disappointing, start in the U.S. The British/Albanian pop singer released “Training Season” the day after Valentine’s Day. She had been teasing the tune for weeks, and she even performed a snippet of it at the Grammys in early February. The promotion was sky-high, and expectations were just as lofty. “Training Season” debuted at No. 27 on the Hot 100, the all-encompassing ranking of the most-consumed songs in the U.S. That was much lower than some would have predicted–at least before they heard the tune. A bad beginning doesn’t necessarily define a track, and anything can happen after a launch. Sadly, it doesn’t look like things are going to get better for “Training Season,” based on its performance this week. In just its second turn on the Hot 100, Lipa’s single has tumbled down the ranking. This frame, the tune appears at No. 61 on the competitive list. It’s not unusual for new songs to slip in their second or third week on the Hot 100. Usually, interest in a just-dropped single is at its peak in the first few days after it hits streaming platforms and download sites. Superfans rush to buy and stream the cut to support their favorite singer, while many other curious listeners also give it a go. After that, consumption can drop off, at least for a while. It can take a while for a song to become a smash, especially as radio programmers feel out the new release and begin to place it into rotation. Lipa actually has two other songs on the chart this week that are both much older, but which are still outpacing the latest release. Her own “Houdini” is down slightly to No. 24 on this week’s Hot 100. The lead single from her next album peaked at No. 11 and has now lived on the tally for 16 weeks. Her Barbie soundtrack single “Dance The Night” is also found above “Training Season,” even though it’s now spent 35 frames on the ranking. Currently, that former Grammy nominee sits at No. 46, and it’s also slipping. Whether “Training Season” can turn around and reverse course is yet to be seen, though a drop of more than 30 spaces in one week on the Hot 100 doesn’t suggest a bright future. Anything can happen, but early performance may mean that this single might not end up ranking as one of her biggest, and she may choose to move on to a third single as the world prepares for a new collection. https://www.forbes.com/sites/hughmcintyre/2024/03/06/dua-lipas-new-single-is-off-to-a-very-disappointing-start-in-america/ 1 1

Popular Post Truth Teller Posted March 7 Popular Post Posted March 7 All Dua Lipa singles were off to a disappointing start in America. Her music leans to European sounds and trends. It's pretty clear from her interviews (and the decision to give the steering wheel to Kevin Parker and Harle) that they've accepted her status as a slow burner and aren't going for flashy smashes. I don't necessarily agree with that decision, career wise, but it ain't my career so who cares? Even if nothing on this album becomes a major US hit, she'll still be young, hot, cool and marketable in 2 years to try again with DL4, with a different sound 11 4 2 2
Solaria Posted March 7 Posted March 7 The US is very fickle with UK popstars anyway. I love what DL3 is becoming and Houdini is my favourite Dua song, but imo they’re both not really songs with very strong hooks like DSN or Levitating. They rely more on their production, the attitude in Dua’s delivery and the atmosphere. It’s very clear that this album will do great in Europe but it’ll probably be a very slow burner in the US. And honestly that is okay. Not every album can smash in the US 4
shyboi Posted March 7 Posted March 7 she already owned the american market, she's up to new horizons 1 2
K@rm@ Posted March 7 Posted March 7 It’s gonna end up becoming a hit after radio is done with Houdini. Her singles have legs not sure why people are writing articles about the first few weeks of the chat performance it’s very rare for songs to be hit fright out the gate unless you’re Taylor or Drake.

Just a Gay on ATRL Posted March 7 Posted March 7 Forbes picking on a woman in pop making fun and generally high quality pop music but never picking on the men who are BOMBING while also making mid to terrible music. Where’s this article for Ed or Shawn, whose last projects barely even charted or made more than a whisper of hype amongst Americans? 11
KeshaSwift Posted March 7 Posted March 7 What’s up with Forbes being so shady lately? What a joke of a company or whatever 1

Erreur2 La Nature Posted March 7 Posted March 7 Who cares but success stans ? The music is fantastic lmao 4
discosean Posted March 7 Posted March 7 This entire notion of a song peaking in it's first week otherwise it is considered a flop or an underperformance is absolutely ridiculous and it is destroying the music industry. Whatever happened to releasing a song, letting people discover and get familiar with it and like it and then it goes up the charts, peaks and then slowly descends all over a period of time. If a song's total run ends up being just 8-10 weeks, that is not going to help it really have any sort of longevity. 2 2
