KatyPrismSpirit Posted March 7 Posted March 7 Thats so unfortunate. Her European tour wouldve really helped to establish her name globally. Wishing her a speedy recovery
Vermillion Posted March 7 Posted March 7 @Afterglow If Tyla identifies as mixed or biracial just in the States and coloured everywhere else it’ll cause worse backlash, but until she gets more hits, her identity is going to be the leading topic of an interview so they can’t avoid discussion of it. She doesn’t have enough hits yet to avoid doing interviews during promo of this and future albums I had no idea about this discourse until now

imason Posted March 7 Posted March 7 Damn why did this have to happen while things have seemed to be only going better for her. Hopefully this is a minor set back for more greatness to come from Tyla. 1

It seems to have overtaken any discussion within black Twitter but I don’t know if that’s carried over to R&B radio - has it? Unless she wants to build solely on streaming. If she had the hits first it’d be a different matter. 10 minutes ago, Espresso said: @Afterglow If Tyla identifies as mixed or biracial just in the States and coloured everywhere else it’ll cause worse backlash, but until she gets more hits, her identity is going to be the leading topic of an interview so they can’t avoid discussion of it. Shes clearly actively avoided talking about it, and her team has repeatedly attempted to wipe it from existence but it has hurt her reputation. TBH it was quite telling and disrespectful of her to be doing Bantu Knots on a tiktok where she was, in fact refusing black culture. But it shows why many Africans have a strong opinion about her and her Grammy win, its not just an "African American" issue and not an issue with Nigerians as South Africans are attempting to spin it. The coloured debate has too many nuances and racial tensions to discuss or even bring up, she knew that. Edited March 7 by Afterglow 1
Khal Posted March 7 Posted March 7 Looking at that fanbase name, it's a good thing her stage name is Tyla and not something like, Nyla. 1
Alex Posted March 7 Posted March 7 The European leg was all sold out and the OP post states that those dates will be rescheduled, I guess America doesn't support her like that which lead to those cancellations.

May be wrong, but I'm pretty sure you have a history of racially-off posts so I have no idea why your first thoughts would be this... Her fans are called Tygers because her name starts with Ty... so if her name was Nyla she wouldn't be doing a wordplay on Tiger... 8 1

Prior to this injury she should have just scheduled the EU tour then and worked toward more hits prior to doing global tours.

Her favorite ice cream? I’m sorry to be flippant but the fact that they didn’t have a plan ready to go prior to expanding into North America instead of running into all these landmines tells me she should just focus on getting more EU hits until they figure out what to do. Or hire a better PR team that doesn’t include her family 1

Go deal with your own issues, you're not going to lecture a black person making a joke with that word Being black doesn't mean you can't be racist or racially insensitive. There are many POC who put down other races for no reason. Still don't get why her fanbase being Tygers automatically makes you think of the N word when Tygers doesn't even sound like or rhyme with the N word.

There was nothing "racially insensitive" about my post, it was a joke, and a simple one. That you're getting sand in your ass about it is not my problem to deal with. Go deal with whatever is the actual source of your troubles, because it's certainly not my post. Edited March 7 by Khal 1
ariesgroove Posted March 7 Posted March 7 (edited) her tour was selling well for someone who just got to stardom so wishing her well and hope she heals Edited March 7 by ariesgroove
Johnny Jacobs Posted March 7 Posted March 7 They booked a tour way too early. You can tour with one hit and no album out

dumbsparce Posted March 7 Posted March 7 I had no idea there was controversy around her racial identity so I quickly looked it up. South Africans using "colored" instead of "mixed" doesn't seem like a big deal to me. Different country, different usage of words, different everything. Why should she reconstruct everything she's ever known and Americanize herself when any misunderstandings can be resolved with a simple google search?
