HungryByTheBuffet Posted April 21 Posted April 21 I was so hyped and I didn't like it If anyone's looking to fill that VHS 80s live show aesthetic, I enjoyed this better a couple of months ago https://letterboxd.com/film/wnuf-halloween-special/ And I'll be watching this next https://letterboxd.com/film/ghostwatch/ 1
harwee Posted April 21 Posted April 21 I like the early 70s setting and what the movie was saying about that era, and cults and tv culture. The ending is slightly underwhelming cause its happening in his head, and didn't fit into the overall style of the first and second act, which happened in a documentary style and what's supposedly captured by live camera. Still pretty solid though.

Its simplicity really worked wonders for the format. I've yet to check out WNUF! 1

Have A Break Posted April 24 Posted April 24 A little disappointed with this one, I'm sad to say. It was cute overall, David Destmalchian was wonderful- but it just did not live up to the hype for me. It felt like the movie didn't know what it wanted to be midway through. It started off very promising with this being a documentary by introducing who Jack Delroy and his show are, then showing the actual late night Halloween episode... I was still sort of OK with the b/w "movie" moments during the show's break-- but then it veered into the too fantastical Spoiler and mass hypnosis... that it just lost me. I get that they wanted to make it a bit more cerebral than it needed to be with the ending, but it would have had a way bigger (and creepier) punch for me if they kept it "grounded" and relied more on the documentary/"this could have really have happened" 70s style throughout. Maybe I will appreciate it more on rewatches.
narid Posted April 27 Posted April 27 I was so disappointed! All the hype for that?! It wasn't scary, didn't have any particular depth to it, and it didn't offer anything new.

I just wish it were in 4K
Cherish Posted May 1 Posted May 1 9 minutes ago, Oktober Knight said: That's a beautiful set! I just wish it were in 4K I agree with the first part. The directors said they never want 4K out, they prefer Blu-ray. As having seen it on the big screen, I'd understand. It already looked a bit muddled by the 70's filter at times, but it was tolerable. 1

commander Posted May 1 Posted May 1 I loved how campy this was and the superb acting really elevated the film even further. Also, this could have easily been a Grady Hendrix book. He needs to have one of his books adapted asap.
blackoutbritney Posted May 2 Posted May 2 I thought it was good but didn't like the vfx with the ending it took me out
