BrandNewBrandon Posted March 7 Posted March 7 Pretty Woman is a more famous movie than anything Meryl has ever done but Meryl is more talented. Meryl is more iconic as her name is to movies what Beyoncé's name is to music. You don't have to say the full name and people already praise you. But again, Julia has Pretty Woman.
Navyboy20 Posted March 7 Posted March 7 Meryl Streep's peak was before my time tbh so there's a lot of her films I've just never seen so I can't make a fair assessment. But what I can tell you is that I don't play about Miss Erin Brockovich 1
WEEKND Posted March 7 Posted March 7 I love Meryl but it’s Julia My best friends wedding alone. Then there’s Erin Brokovich, Pretty Woman, that movie where she wouldn’t marry anyone and would flee on a horse, Mona Lisa Smile and of course Eat. Meryl has Prada and the movie with Goldie Hawn
BrandNewBrandon Posted March 7 Posted March 7 1 minute ago, WEEKND said: that movie where she wouldn’t marry anyone and would flee on a horse Runaway Bride. Meryl has Sophie's Choice which is probably her most iconic movie.
WEEKND Posted March 7 Posted March 7 Just now, BrandNewBrandon said: Runaway Bride. Meryl has Sophie's Choice which is probably her most iconic movie. I think the choice scene is iconic but the rest of the movie leaves much to be desired. I won’t make jokes tho given the subject matter but does anyone actually enjoy that movie or is the performance so good u have to mention it. unlike a movie like Monster where both the performance and the movie itself are good.

Oh don't get me started on Monster. Now why did you need to bring that movie up in this discussion? It's incredible. And I don't think I've seen a Meryl performance as good as Charlize's in that movie. 1
EnigmaticAndroid Posted March 7 Posted March 7 Meryl. Julia is obviously incredibly iconic and has had many hit films, but the prestige and mythos Meryl has built around herself is next-level.
midnightdawn Posted March 7 Posted March 7 Julia was relevant for about ten years before her career fell off a cliff. Meryl has been winning Oscars since the 70's.
Elusive Chanteuse Posted March 7 Posted March 7 Julia is a huge movie star Meryl is much more talented but a lot of her acclaimed movies aren’t really remembered.
byzantium Posted March 7 Posted March 7 Julia had the bigger peak. Meryl has longevity. I would say Julia has the more iconic roles in pop culture.
monologueNacafe Posted March 7 Posted March 7 (edited) It depends on who you ask tbh. Julia is the more commercial-crowd pleaser and Meryl is the more critically acclaimed. Meryl is respected as the best but Julia’s movies are more remembered overall im personally watching Pretty Woman and Best Friend’s Wedding before Sophie’s Choice and Out of Africa or whatever that movie is called Edited March 7 by monologueNacafe
GraceRandolph Posted March 8 Posted March 8 Julia hasn’t seemed very relevant in the last decade. I think Meryl’s career overall is more remembered tbh.
