I mean, isn't MTV just ridiculousness reruns 24/7?

It’s MTV Studios which makes content for Viacom (Comedy Central, Paramount Plus, Nickelodeon, etc). It could have landed on any one of those. Let’s face it, Daria is the star. No one was gonna tune in for Jodie.

Aw this is sad.

As much as I hate reboots I think Daria has aged well and probably could've been a decent show/movie when adapted for the current times. Idk why they went with Jodie though, I don't remember anything about her - apart from Daria and her family the only other characters I can remember are Jane, the airhead blonde and her dumb jock boyfriend

They need to make a pilot season of Daria as an adult woman, only about modern trends.

Not surprised. It’s been in development hell, and the reboot trend is already passé.

I feel bad because Daria indeed has held up very well. Hopefully we see more from that world in some way soon.

Let me be the sacrificial lamb: they went with Jodie because she was a high-achieving Black girl at a time the media loved to paint black people as either jocks or jesters, and I'm assuming it was announced in 2020, which (as we realize now) was a year of post-George Floyd performative acts towards Black people: DEI initiatives with no funding or mandate, black boxes on IG, TV shows that were only expected by networks to last a year (or long enough that their writers' rooms could be paraded out in a show of diversity), and Nancy Pelosi kneeling in a kente cloth with other politicians. :rip:  As someone who grew up experiencing what Jodie and her boyfriend/the prom king went through, I was really looking forward to this show.

The creators want to do this and did an entire magazine spread a few years ago featuring what they’re doing now and look like.

I figured as much. That was no shade to Jodie - I still would have watched regardless (and I have a t shirt with her and Daria on it lol), just that to revive a 20 year old show and not have it be about any of the main cast doesn't really bode well from a business POV

I'm shocked to hear a Jodie spinoff was even being considered. She's easily one of the least compelling characters on the show.

Daria is such an iconic show, I hate that they fumbled this.
