No other viable candidate has been fielded and vetted, and many of the top tier ascendants are even less popular than Joe Biden. People that just decide not to show up because they don’t like either candidate and are sick of the process. The “but…but…but…Trump” argument is hardly as potent as you might imagine considering we have all lived through a Trump presidency. The majority of the US does not want Trump but fear mongering and voter shaming is not really going to unify that majority. You need a candidate that will give people a reason to support them.
