Specter Posted March 6 Posted March 6 https://www.billboard.com/music/rb-hip-hop/cardi-b-second-album-release-invasion-of-privacy-debate-1235622654/ Quote Even without a sophomore album, the rap superstar has maintained her star power and found a rhythm tending to the Bardi Gang over the past half-decade by dropping off a few loose singles a year (“WAP,” “Money,” “Bongos”), many of which have performed very well on the charts. When Cardi hasn’t been catering to mother duties, going off on Chick-fil-A or inking lucrative brand deals, she’s also been hopping on (and helping elevate) other artists’ waves with a handful of guest features, like on Kay Flock’s menacing “Shake It,” Latto’s “Put It On Da Floor” and GloRilla’s star-making “Tomorrow 2.” And there’s no doubt Cardi B set the bar high with Invasion of Privacy extremely high, and being compared to those standards is a daunting proposition. IOP soared to No. 1 on the Billboard 200 with 226,000 album-equivalent units upon its April 2018 debut. The project also produced a pair of Hot 100-toppers, as her breakout anthem “Bodak Yellow” and the Latin-tinged “I Like It” with Bad Bunny and J Balvin reached the chart apex. It won rap album of the year at the 2019 Grammys, had every track at least certified platinum by the RIAA, and became the first by a female rapper to spend over 200 weeks on the Billboard 200 in the years after. The album was later ranked by Billboard‘s staff as one of the 20 best of the 2010s, and by Rolling Stone as one of the 20 best hip-hop albums of all time. ... If Cardi wants to maintain her status atop the rap food chain, she needs another LP in her repertoire, which will not only fortify her current position in the game, but strengthen her argument when it comes to being taken seriously as an all-time great rapper. If those are the conversations she’s looking to hold her own in one day, another album will cement her status in rap lore. Quote If Cardi B retired today, she’d already be a Hall of Famer. She has five Hot 100 No. 1’s, to go with 11 top 10s, and 46 entries on the chart, all in a seven-year span. Following the release of Invasion, she landed two No. 1s with “WAP” in 2020 (alongside Megan Thee Stallion) and the solo “Up” in 2021. During that span, she also embarked on a storied features run: Her sixteens elevated careers a la Drake, as her Midas touch brought mainstream awareness to hitmakers and/or future stars like GloRilla (“Tomorrow 2”), Blueface (“Thotiana”), Kay Flock (“Shake It”), and FendiDaRappa (“Point Me 2”). For Cardi, the formula from now on should be simple: release records quarterly and demolish every feature on sight. This blueprint allows Cardi flexibility and keeps her in the Big Three conversation with Nicki and Megan regarding the female rap hierarchy – even amidst the stiffer competition from some impressive rising stars in this decade, who still have nonetheless only racked up a fraction of Cardi’s career highlights and accomplishments. Them having a whole ass internal debate dsmjf; there's a lot more to the article I only highlighted small segments. With that said she better drop this year because I have HAD it with this *****.
jomarr Posted March 6 Posted March 6 Does anyone even care at this point? this is frustrating because WAP had phenomenal hype and success which she wasted. 1
dirrtydiana Posted March 6 Posted March 6 Anyone feel like albums are dying? Like artists could just drop songs and put them in a streaming playlist eventually 1

I feel that it was her label not wanting to fund her album because she got pregnant again. But I swear Offset has been babytrapping her. 1
Taste of Honey Posted March 6 Posted March 6 The damage has already been done by this point. But yes, and should've been years ago by this point. 8
alfonso12 Posted March 6 Posted March 6 She should've released after Up, even if she couldn't promote it because of the pregnancy, the outcome would've been better than what it looks like the outcome could be if she releases now. 1
TROPICUM Posted March 6 Posted March 6 No this year is literally the perfect one for her to release… Spoiler … what should have been her 3rd album

concubine Posted March 6 Posted March 6 The damage has already been done, as sad as it is to admit it's way too late now
imabadkid Posted March 6 Posted March 6 there’s no excuse for her to be this many years into her career and still have no second album. drop the fear and just put out the album and let it speak for itself
SharGaga Posted March 6 Posted March 6 No she shouldn't. Her recent songs prove she has nothing to bring to the table anymore. WAP & UP were the only good songs her team brought to her it seems. The rest has been ASS. She needs to be left in the past like all the other one era rap girlies. Doja is the FUTURE while Nicki will be coasting along cause no matter what she does or says she keeps staying scoring lil hits here and there annually.
Mellark Posted March 6 Posted March 6 Nicki Minaj Petty supporters will say, no. But the GP would say yes!

Garbaj Posted March 6 Posted March 6 I low-key think it was her label that didn't want her to release after WAP and Up. bc if this b**** had 100 songs since IOP; an album with mid songs would have done NUMBERS. maybe she should pull a lauryn hill.
toxicgenie Posted March 6 Posted March 6 She needs a hit before dropping tbh. She focused too much on features instead of her own album when she had the hype.

There's arguably been bigger albums this century than in the second half of the 00s. Bad Bunny, Olivia, Taylor, Morgan Wallen all dropped some of the most consumed albums of the century within a few years of each other. There's only a few singles heavy girls like Dua Lipa 1

GreatestLoveofAll Posted March 6 Posted March 6 shes definitely scared but if the music is good then she'll do just fine.
Feanor Posted March 6 Posted March 6 She should've dropped the album in early 2021, with "Up" being the big single that comes with the album. Back then she could've also added all her successful 2018-20 droplets as an extra safety net (commercially speaking) without it coming across as desperate. Now it would just look embarrassing if she dropped an album in 2024 and added tracks from half a decade ago. She really dropped the ball…

Also she needs to keep Offset away from her videos. 2
Onyxmage Posted March 6 Posted March 6 No she can be the only artist in the Histoy of music who releases only one album and stays relevant forever.
