ithinkheknowsoutsold Posted April 5 Posted April 5 6 hours ago, Solarie said: Well, I mean her career has been severely mismanaged since the very beginning and it's a combination of her team being bad, as well as her own bizarre choices. I will always maintain that she's been given way too much freedom at beginning of her career. Where do I even begin? She's been recording FIRE material for her debut era, with big names including Diplo, Major Lazer etc., but none of the songs made the final cut. She's had plenty of bops ready but decided to go with a boring material and that singer-songwriter route that never really fit her because of "you can only have one debut and it needs to be special" logic. Havana, her biggest hit, didn't even really fit the album in retrospect because of the material chosen for it. Scar Tissues which should have been Havana's follow-up instead of Never Be the Same (that is great and still should become single along the route) was also scrapped from the album. It's just more radio-friendly and less grating that NBTS let's be real. Then choosing Consequences as a single... literally who asked for this when She Loves Control was there? Closer and The Middle turned down for bizarre reasons, I'm not even fully sure what went down with Closer, but apparently she backed down last minute and acted unprofessionally by ditching Chainsmokers just before the performance...? The Middle rejected because of... Havana? like why couldn't she have two radio hits simultaneously out at the same time? Since when that is a bad thing and a rare thing for the artist? I believe Havana wouldn't have been hurt by The Middle smashing at the same time, but whatever. Then the second era came and it was just such a misfire overall. My Oh My almost not making the album and being added to it last minute (missing on physical releases, no? - do I remember correctly?). This was the exact type of song that only should have made the album all along (thank God it did), but it should have been a lead single too... Like what were they thinking? Then that Shameless/Liar double release which confused radio programmers, her own stans, and knowing her team... even them. The next choices were just as bizarre Easy, Living Proof are just not single materials and neither is Cry For Me. The damage was already done by that point. One of the strangest promotions I have seen. The singles should've gone as follow. 1. Senorita (glad it was added to the album) 2. My Oh My (leading single excluding Senorita leading up to the release) 3. Liar (this was a bop and the exact type of music she was doing and people liked. it should've been released alongside the album) 4. Used To This (this is one of the best songs she ever recorded and it's quite original. I know some Camila non-stans that like it. I think it would have done well on the radio) and then for the 5th and final single Shameless. Then of course Familia happened, but I think her image was so stained by the racism claims by that point that nothing could have saved it. I think that single choices were actually perfect and there's nothing else they could have done in this era. I LUV IT is actually a perfect re-introduction prevention for her but the bizarre treatment and no radio is just so weird. It keeps increasing on Spotify and sounds like a smash, so hopefully they can turn things around. Overall, so many missed opportunities and bizarre decisions that kind fo stalled her as MPG. She really could have been bigger, but oh well. Great post, loved reading it. Just a few things I'd like to point out. With Closer, Camila couldn't do it because Fifth Harmony obligations forced her hand. They were pushing All In My Head (Flex) as the follow-up to Work From Home at the time, and it was felt that Camila being on another song would cannibalise the former's success. If I'm not wrong, Closer's ultimate success was also the deciding factor which led to Camila leaving 5H. With her self-titled, I think Havana had a stronger follow-up on the album in the form of Into It than Never Be The Same. It's still very catchy and pop, but definitely less grating than NBTS. I think it would've easily done better than NBTS, although I would've loved to have seen Scar Tissue on the album and as a follow-up to Havana. The big mistake that era was releasing no single from the album in May when NBTS peaked. The summertime would've been ideal for She Loves Control to be another Havana-sized smash, but they instead went to the godawful Pharell collab (an obvious attempt to replicate Havana's success), and it bombed instead of going with the song fans were clamouring for. The fact that it took another five months to follow up NBTS with the mid Consequences was shocking to me. Something's Gotta Give was the far superior ballad, and would've at least fared better than Consequences. The Middle not going to Camila was not up to her, it was the producers' decision since they were testing a bunch of different female artists for the song and ultimately found Marren Morris to be the best fit. Releasing so many singles concurrently was the obvious misfire of Romance, but if I recall correctly both Liar and Shameless were released on a Thursday too and right before Post Malone dropped his massive album which completely overshadowed the two songs. Had they waited another week or two and gone with My Oh My solely, it would've probably debuted in the top ten and smashed its way through Christmas. I don't think Liar should've followed MOM though, it would've made it so that Camila released 3 Latin songs in a row. Instead Used To This should've been single 3 with the album coming out in mid-November rather than right before Christmas. Single 4 should've been either Liar or Should've Said It, continuing the Latin vibes, and the era should've wrapped up with Shameless as a single for the fans even if it flopped. I also agree Familia had an ideal rollout, but I think taking so long to release Bam Bam after DGY flopped wasn't to her advantage. Maybe if they had gone with Bam Bam in like October 2021 instead of like six months later, the hype for the album itself could've been salvaged. With I Luv It, the song should've obviously come out on a Friday (the 22nd ideally), and gone to radio immediately. The release is so unnecessarily botched that I feel like one of her higher-ups wanted to test what could be the hypothetical worst possible rollout for a song ever. 4

I believe Havana wouldn't have been hurt by The Middle smashing at the same time, but whatever As a Demi stan, I understand why Camila rejected The Middle, because Demi did the same thing. They were saying the song has to be their lead single or they did not want an established singer on it. Demi chose Sorry Not Sorry over The Middle as well. At the end of the day, without Havana, Camila would have no solo career (sans Seniorita). So that choice was proper As for follow ups, her debut album lacked hits but was a solid effort. Romance was just a bad album, as was most of Familia. Seniorita and Bam Bam were her saving grace for both those eras, so I actually commend her team for somehow keeping her from completely flopping. I presume the Drake collab will allow that this time as well and will be the next single
TayDuaStan Posted April 5 Posted April 5 Just heard on tiktok a jiafei remix of i luv it and i can't believe I'm saying this, it made this abomination finally listenable… 1 4

That's why I understand why Camila leaving Fifth Harmony was the best decision. No shade to the group, because I've been a supporter since the very beginning, but I think they were doing things to sabotage her. All of them were allowed to do solo things while in the group. Lauren recorded that Marian Hill feature even before Camila's 'I Know What You Did Last Summer'. But since she was gaining too much attention as a solo artist, they found ways ans excuses to stop her. And not letting her do the "Closer" collab was dumb, because it would give the group more attention and it could've help their single. 6
