ATRL Moderator supaspaz Posted April 27 Author ATRL Moderator Posted April 27 The results are in! And they are close. After 17 voters weighed in on who truly ruled 2023, all five albums finished in the top ten and the top four songs are separated by less than a point. More than anything, however, that seems to reflect how unenthusiastic you all were about this selection. In addition to the low participation, just nine tracks earned an average of 8 or higher — and barely so. Will you all feel more kindly in retrospect? We're about to find out! For the record, scores have been rounded to two decimal places and ties were broken by which song received more higher scores. Thank you all for your patience while I put this together. Time to make your final guesses about what's to come and let's get to it!
ATRL Moderator supaspaz Posted April 27 Author ATRL Moderator Posted April 27 I don't know that anyone will be surprised by the first elimination
glitch Posted April 27 Posted April 27 I had to go through my scores at the end and adjust a few to give some 9s and 10s because I did none on my first round of scoring
ATRL Moderator supaspaz Posted April 27 Author ATRL Moderator Posted April 27 REVOLUTION 0 Average: 4.75 High Score: 9 (@a_d_22) Low score: 1 (@Alldeezy, @creativity.) Last place goes to this desultory Boygenius ballad, sung by Phoebe Bridgers, about falling in love online with actor Paul Mescal during the coronavirus pandemic – a song so detested by voters that it couldn’t even beat a 43-second instrumental. Best bit: its original title was “Paul Is Dead,” after the Beatles conspiracy theory advanced by supposedly hidden messages on the track “Revolution 9” from The White Album ATRL says…: “Revolution 0 more like I should have given this song a 0,” @Ewan Chaos snarked. “Them struggle whispering about wanting to kick someone's teeth took me out,” @glitch cackled.
ATRL Moderator supaspaz Posted April 27 Author ATRL Moderator Posted April 27 WE'RE IN LOVE Average: 4.88 High Score: 9 (@a_d_22) Low score: 1 (@4Real, @creativity.) On this languid ode to friendship, Lucy Dacus cracks inside jokes and expresses hope that the band members will always be in each other’s lives. But if you don’t like Boygenius, you’re not going to like a song about how much Boygenius likes Boygenius Best bit: “I don't need the symbol of a scar/So put down the knife, we're not swapping blood/Isn't it enough that we stripped down to our skin?”
Reverie Posted April 27 Posted April 27 Quote , just nine tracks earned an average of 8 or higher — and barely so. ekjgnweh that's crazy
ATRL Moderator supaspaz Posted April 27 Author ATRL Moderator Posted April 27 The next one is not Boygenius...but don't worry, there's more to come!

ATRL Moderator supaspaz Posted April 27 Author ATRL Moderator Posted April 27 ALL MY LOVE Average: 4.89 High Score: 8 (@Ace Reject) Low score: 1 (@Alldeezy, @4Real) Can anyone explain why this instrumental opener from Fountain Baby – a mere 43 seconds of orchestral strings and vocal babble – isn’t just the intro for “Angels In Tibet”? Best bit: The brooding swirl of harp and violin suggests a Bond theme. Give Amaarae a call, Barbara Broccoli! ATRL says…: “I mean it's just an intro but didn't catch my attention,” @Alldeezy wrote. @a_d_22 thought it was an “interesting instrumental but I need lyrics.” @Ewan Chaos found it to be a “fine interlude, lowering it so other songs can get their chance to shine though sorry.”
Reverie Posted April 27 Posted April 27 Omg I was about to be so upset after seeing the thumbnail I mean I find this intro already more musically engaging than some **** here so 2
ATRL Moderator supaspaz Posted April 27 Author ATRL Moderator Posted April 27 Another album takes its first hit next!

Suilen Posted April 27 Posted April 27 Well, it's an instrumental, and those don't do well in general, but still more pleasant than some full-fledged songs.
ATRL Moderator supaspaz Posted April 27 Author ATRL Moderator Posted April 27 SCARED OF MY GUITAR Average: 4.97 High Score: 9 (@a_d_22) Low score: 1 (@creativity.) Guts takes its first hit with this witty bonus track, on which Olivia Rodrigo keeps stringing along a relationship that has run its course because she’s too afraid to admit it’s over – except when she’s confessing to her acoustic guitar. Best bit: “I can't lie to it the same way that I lie to you” ATRL says…: The voters were not feeling Olivia when she’s in her feelings. “She goes from really catchy songs to her boring ballads T_T” @Alldeezy complained. @Ewan Chaos was “scared of your guitar, too. Put it DOWN and get UP and give us ENERGY!”
ATRL Moderator supaspaz Posted April 27 Author ATRL Moderator Posted April 27 You all were TOUGH on poor Liv!

I imagine she just didn't want a minute of inaction at the beginning of Angels In Tibet but still wanted a little intro to build some atmosphere for the album. I respect it
