Feels like the very worst people will not grasp that decriminalization faces challenges when greater society still has rampant private, for-profit healthcare where (already very legal) drugs are mass-produced and over-prescribed for the benefit of shareholders' profits and this isn't ended in-tandem with decriminalization.

Decriminalization works to end the dehumanization of addicts, but can't on its own stop Big Pharma from mass creating generations of drug addicts.

I was always a big proponent of drug decriminalization but the destruction caused by fentanyl has made me reconsider. Seems so much worse than what was out there 10-15 years ago

Why would they want to kill their customers? They’d stop getting money.

Useless politicians once again failing to do things right. So many other countries and so many studies prove how effective decriminalization can be when resources are put into to regulate access to drugs so that addicts don’t get exposed to exploitative drug dealers. Decriminalizing without putting full social welfare resources to prevent and treat addiction is asinine.

Good! I visited Portland last year and it was a disgrace. Never felt so uneasy in my whole life, streets full of tents, human poo everywhere, addicts walking around without a cause. They need to help them with getting clean,  housing, food and finding work. The government should be ashamed of how bad they let it get.

Who didn’t see this coming? Lawlessness, let the citizens do what they want with no recourse. There has to be law and order or it will be total chaos in the streets. But the Liberal politicians want to stick it to the Conservatives who believe coddling addicts is the way to go.

How do some of you sound like caricatures of 1940s conservatives who supported public lynchings.

"Law and order is needed to keep the streets in order!!!" people don't talk like this in real life outside of Southern sheriffs whose grandfathers owned literal slaves. You might as well be making this post with a piece of straw in your mouth and the smell of chewing tobacco coming off of you. :rip:

Because I deal in reality and not Lala Land where Twits like you think people have the right to shoot up and poop in the streets, and allow people to run rampant in stores to steal thousands of dollars in merchandise

Your reality is the dystopian hellscape that we call 2024 where people are nothing more than objects and commodified labor to keep making money and order for the ruling elite.

you think law and order means making it easier to exploit the most vulnerable populations as long as they aren’t bothering you so you can continue to work and contribute to the ruling elite. You don’t see drug addicts as people with real struggles who have more than likely succumbed to the lacking support and structures perpetuated by your overlords, but just nuisances to be corralled and be out of sight.

im gonna guess, you think drug addicts should go to jail and at best maybe offer therapy and think that will magically solve their ongoing addiction and the way the system pushes them to search for drugs illicitly? Or do you want them in jail forever? Which side of selfish unsympathetic scumbag are you?
