Trent W Posted March 3 Posted March 3 Isn’t this bad for the US? Brics is the biggest threat to the US dollar
liquiddiamonds Posted March 3 Posted March 3 (edited) Some of the takes here… BRICS is just a multilateral group that aims to strengthen south - south cooperation and economic relations. They are basically trade partners. Its core members are formed by the largest in-development countries from the 2000s that wanted to lessen their dependency from US - Western Europe economic relations. In more recent years they have created a fund to help strengthen their development projects. BRICS don’t agree on everything and they still have strong unilateral relationships with western countries. They’re not supposed to be a political unit, they don’t side together in every issue and they still value their political independence in international organizations. BRICS was an easier way for China to reach major players in other continents during the 2000s and 2010s and those other countries to have access to the chinese economy BRICS is not a bloc as EU or Mercosur, because it lacks the structure and integration. They also have no plans whatsoever of adopting a single currency or push a new one to counter the dolar. Most of their trade is made in dollars… It makes sense for Mexico to join them, because NAFTA is basically dead these days and if Trump returns to power Mexico will be pushed aside as a partner again. It’s good for Mexico to strengthen their bonds elsewhere and diversify their trade partners. It won’t cause tension with the US unless China moves closer militarily Edited March 3 by liquiddiamonds 4
