"It's over" when HISS went #1 this year and Doja had one of the biggest hits of 2023 GLOBALLY. Clown

Somewhat disagree with this though.

Controversy helped that song chart high for one week, if we’re being honest. And that’s no hate at all, b/c I’m a fan.

Doja is in a class of her own.  It’s funny because people don’t include her in female rap conversations until moments like this one.  One day she’s a rapper, next day she’s a popstar…depending on the point trying to be made.  So like, is she a rapper or not? :skull: (Just speaking generally how ppl/media tend to flip flop).

Her success blows all the other rap girlies out the water (except Cardi), but there’s always an asterisk next to her name.

A couple of years ago people couldn’t shut up about Erica Banks, Latto, Glorilla, Coi Leray, Ice Spice, City Girls, Saweetie, etc.  And none of them have had recent hits (esp solo).

Either the female rap wave is declining, or it was never as big as people were claiming. :michael:

Yeah, she’s barely hanging on lol.

*Edit to my previous post…all The Dolls also are never talked about anymore either (Asian Doll, Dream Doll, etc).

HISS was fed off of Nicki's rants in response. As soon as Nicki shut up and ppl got over the controversy, the song fell off. Meg's next song will likely underperform like the rest of her recent releases unless its a bonafide hit.

Doja's "hits" in 2023 were not rap/hip hop and relied heavily on radio airplay.

The fact is the hype of female rappers have not matched the sales. The smoke and mirrors is nearly over.

Your arbitrary definition of a hit is irrelevant. Paint The Town Red was a GLOBAL #1 smash on charts that don't factor radio. Doja is rapping from start to finish. It’s as much of a rap song as Rich Baby Daddy (and bigger)

People are taking what he says too literal. The female rap wave that had Megan, Cardi, Doja, Lizzo, and others has died down. There aren’t any new girls making waves.

We have our staples with Doja, Nicki, Cardi, and Megan. Like the early 2000’s had Missy, Kim, Trina, and Eve as their staples.

rap in general is declining on the charts lately
