Charli XCX - 'BRAT'

Maybe it's the recency bias but for me, it feels like BRAT is significantly better than anything she's ever done before (and I'm a big fan since True Romance).

I think it's her most realized and tight-knit album. Everything flows together well and makes sense as a body of work. I can hear a nod to all her past albums in at least one of the songs. It's Charli finally fully embracing every part of her.

I mean, even look at this thread alone. There's a huge mix of what people think are her best albums, so it makes sense that this one mixing them all together would make for her quintessential album.

does Everything is Romantic sound like something from twigs CAPRISONGS(specifically darjeeling) to anyone else? Everytime I hear it I immediately think of twigs I can't be the only one right?

love the album though, AOTY:heart2:

I found my old Brat coded AVI, so now I can post in this thread.
They say we've got the same hair

Great album, haven't really had time to read the reviews over this last week, but happy to see the album has been so well received.

The UK charts were a travesty, but in some ways Top 3 in the US album charts might be more important, as it means the Grammy voters might not so easily be able to ignore the album than if it were much lower.

Spoiler

but if she was, it wouldn't be the first time a highly acclaimed album was snubbed in one way or another

Her best album. Other Charli albums might be more experimental, but this has the right amount of everything and doesn't outstay it's welcome, unlike some artists who have released bloated albums with way too many filler tracks for the sake of higher streaming numbers.

When you finish listening to 365 which is fantastic, you want to listen to the whole album again.

Great club bangers, but also great pop ballads about varied subjects like feeling socially awkward, in "I might say something stupid", or the loss of a friend "So, I".

Who knew you could have heartbreaking songs without singing about exes, or informing everyone that while you might be focused on earning your next billion, you're doing it with a broken heart?

I didn't mind the bonus tracks, but the standard album track sequencing is near perfect and didn't need anything else. Perhaps you could rearrange the tracks if you still have the album starting with 360 and ending with 365 and it would still work.

i love her but i can't get into this at all. hello goodbye is the only track i like

It's impossible for me to rank her albums. Most of them deserve the first spot and none of them deserve the last. I'm sorry.

i'll try again but i kinda hate the bass on the whole album. too gritty for me

and while i usually love her writing (the melodies) BRAT forces me to listen to lyrics and i'm like gurl aren't you 30?

I feel like the lyrics are very age appropriate, I'm 28 and can relate to a lot of them

#3 in the US with 74k is absolutely insane to me. Good for her :clap3:

I really like BRAT. Pleasantly surprised how cohesive the album is, but yet every track is interesting on its own. Very happy for the acclaim and success it has received so far! :bird:

Prior this, I've only heard handful of Charli's songs, should I go through her discography chronologically, or you recommend some other trajectory?

True Romance and Sucker are nice albums, but they are outliers in her discography

Her trajectory that let her up to here is

Vroom Vroom > Number 1 Angel > Pop 2 > Charli > How I'm Feeling Now

I recommend listening in that order

Then there's also Crash which is nice but also kind of an outlier in a way, it's probably her most accessible album tho so maybe start with that
