SoldierofLove Posted February 27 Posted February 27 Gary Pilnick, the Chairman and CEO of Kellogg, made the comment on CNBC this week after a Wall Street Journal report found that Americans spend 10% or more of their income on food. "If you think about the cost of cereal for a family versus what they might otherwise do, that's going to be much more affordable," Pilnick said, claiming that it could help a "consumer under pressure" because the price of a bowl of cereal with milk and fruit "is less than a dollar." When pressed on CNBC whether the messaging of struggling people eating cereal for dinner might seem distasteful, Pilnick doubled down, citing company statistics that found a quarter of cereal consumption was outside breakfast time. "In fact, it's landing really well right now," Pilnick said. "Cereal for dinner is something that is probably more on trend now, and we would expect to continue as that consumer is under pressure." https://www.businessinsider.com/personal-finance/kellogg-ceo-cereal-dinner-save-money-2024-2 We’re in hell.

byzantium Posted February 27 Posted February 27 It’s giving, “let them eat cake”. I say we proceed with the natural next step to this situation.
May Posted February 27 Posted February 27 i think it’s a very distasteful thing to say purely bc of his position in wealth and power however , and im not saying this in a way to be ‘if i can do it, everyone should do it’ - it’s actually kinda off-topic , during my poorest years i was able to feed myself on 3 meals per day for less than 50p . just through buying those 15p tins of spaghetti hoops or 10p packs of noodles . ahhhhh i was in the trenches .
Yawn Posted February 27 Posted February 27 it indeed makes a great snack outside of breakfast so there are some points that he’s made
Archetype Posted February 27 Posted February 27 Cereal for dinner is an emergency food, it will satisfy your hunger but you get little to zero nutritional value unless you add in things like fruit, nutritional yeast, protein powder, etc, all of which cost more than a box of cereal. It is *NOT* healthy for someone or an entire family to regularly eat cereal for dinner over a long period of time, and this is especially important for children and teenagers. It is extremely harmful and distasteful for a CEO of any company to come out and say this, and then try to justify this as a legitimate option for dinner because people who can't afford an actual meal desperately eat your product. 13 1
