In 2023, after undergoing a battery of medical tests, Wendy was officially diagnosed with primary progressive aphasia and frontotemporal dementia (FTD). Aphasia, a condition affecting language and communication abilities, and frontotemporal dementia, a progressive disorder impacting behavior and cognitive functions, have already presented significant hurdles in Wendy's life.

The decision to share this news was difficult and made after careful consideration, not only to advocate for understanding and compassion for Wendy, but to raise awareness about aphasia and frontotemporal dementia and support the thousands of others facing similar circumstances. Unfortunately, many individuals diagnosed with aphasia and frontotemporal dementia face stigma and misunderstanding, particularly when they begin to exhibit behavioral changes but have not yet received a diagnosis.

Wendy is still able to do many things for herself. Most importantly she maintains her trademark sense of humor and is receiving the care she requires to make sure she is protected and that her needs are addressed. She is appreciative of the many kind thoughts and good wishes being sent her way.

there's been whispers of dementia ever since she fell. i don't believe that 'care and protected' part for a second but wishing her well.

so ironic, just like they erased her to be forgotten, she'll also forget who she was... 🫢

Not a doctor but having gone through a lot of this with my late aunt who had severe schizophrenia - when you combine Wendy’s alcoholism with all of the conditions she had already including Graves’ disease, etc., it accelerates a decline for a person whose brain structure is sensitive to begin with. The trauma from her conservatorship seems to have pushed things over the edge. All of this is very sad.

She clearly was/is battling some strong mental issues. The past few times she’s spoken out and the preview for the upcoming documentary are sort of framing her side as “people setting her up” ala Britney, but she seriously doesn’t seem like she can even string simple sentences coherently or knows where she is these days.

It does seem like she probably needs a caretaker and someone to control her finances/decisions.

This is all so sad, she will aways be a “friend in my head”

people who call it karma need to look in the mirror, sympathy is good energy not enjoying someone’s suffering.

I really hope she is getting the care she needs, the lifetime doc should be interesting.

@iHype. I get that self-care for someone that already has a lot of health conditions can be a chicken versus egg argument but if Kevin hadn’t cheated on her part of me wonders if things would’ve gotten this bad this quickly.

Actually, if Wendy had left Kevin earlier, like she said she should have I genuinely wonder if things would’ve gotten this bad this quickly - multiple emotional traumas are a factor in this.

I hope she maintains a high quality of life. Dementia and aphasia is an unfair experience, but it still allows for happiness and joy in life and I hope she gets all that. :heart2:

Early 50s is extremely young for dementia onset. I wonder if it was triggered by some kind of brain damage.

She always said she had trouble sleeping and stress. It all lead up to this unfortunately.

This is so sad. Anyone who was an avid Wendy Watcher from her six-week sneak peak until her last day on set, knows just how proud Wendy was of her education at Northeastern University and how articulate she was just in general. So sad to watch. She definitely made the Talk Show realm exciting for someone who doesn’t normally watch or keep up with morning talk shows. Sure, you’ll have people saying it’s what she deserves for being so messy all these years, but that’s exactly why we all tuned in. If Wendy was saying it, 8/10 we were all thinking the same thing. s:wan:

These illnesses can be a harrowing experience.

Nobody deserves that. I'm really sorry. :chick3:

She's almost 60. But this is still sad. Had a bad feeling since she fainted on her show, but they always downplayed her health issues.

I would have never imagined THE Wendy Williams would have fallen so hard. Praying for her.
