Gorjesspazze9 Posted February 19 Posted February 19 My coworkers were having this conversation earlier this seems like older dramas and sitcoms are having resurgences recently. Anyone notice this
EtherealCat Posted February 19 Posted February 19 you know what you are getting, no fear of them getting cancelled, dont wait have to wait years for a new season 11 1 1
Illuminati Posted February 19 Posted February 19 I think it's because there's more material the further back you look. These one season shows that they keep churning out and cancelling don't really leave a lasting cult following 4
rzal Posted February 19 Posted February 19 I mean Netflix is the biggest streamer and it has THREE (English) dramas with 6 seasons or more, HOC got terrible in last season or even before, The Crown is not something you rewatch often (and the last season was apparently terrible), Orange Is The New Black was good but barely anyone talks about it these days. For comedy they only have Grace and Frankie (no idea wtf The Ranch is). https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_ended_Netflix_original_programming#. This list is crazy, they literally cancel everything 1
KFC Posted February 19 Posted February 19 Why would you invest your time in a series that gives you 8 episodes once every 2 years and will probably get cancelled after 2 seasons when there are shows with 100+ episodes ready to watch at your own pace 4
Khal Posted February 19 Posted February 19 Statistics and maths kick my ass, but wouldn't it make sense that a show with 49854908 seasons would have more minutes viewed than a show with 2-3 seasons, seeing as there's more to watch?
May Posted February 19 Posted February 19 I’ll tell you right now; it’s because ppl are learning that the 6-8 episode per season format SUCKS they want filler episodes in a 22-episode season . It allows for world building and character building which turns them into comfort shows me and my bf just got done watching Lost and then Desperate Housewives . i refuse to get into a show w him that only has 3 seasons and 8 episodes each. 11 2
Zeferino Posted February 19 Posted February 19 Sis the title is giving does Bruno mars is gay Old tv shows were better. And most of the time not serialized
JBJT2786 Posted February 19 Posted February 19 I mean hasn't this always been the case? Hench why Friends and Seinfield keep getting deals every few years with streaming services. I remembered back when HOC and OITNB were the hottest things Friends was still the most streamed show. The difference now is there's more options of old TV shows to binge.
taemin Posted February 19 Posted February 19 Because Desperate Housewives, Gilmore Girls, 2 Broke Girls and Ugly Betty are peak TV! 1
Starfish Posted February 19 Posted February 19 Other than stranger things we don't have tv shows with a truly wide reach anymore. Succession is extremely local.
Alaska. Posted February 19 Posted February 19 Waiting for Black Sails to finally get the recognition it deserves

Yakult Posted February 19 Posted February 19 Over-saturation; there are so many TV shows rn that it's overwhelming. It also doesn't help that they're locked behind paywalls......like who has the energy/money to subscribe to more than 2/3 streaming services? We're also passed the golden age of TV (the 10s). Netflix don't have the same quality control/finger on the pulse like they used to. There's so much generic TV on all of the streaming platforms these days......it's exhausting to sift through. Lack of promotion is another reason......Apple TV have a lot of incredible TV shows but nobody subscribes or knows about them. I don't know much about US network TV these days tbh. What's going on there? Apart from Abbott Elementary.....I'm completely oblivious to any shows from ABC etc. But I'm going to presume that the days of blockbuster network TV are long gone & we aren't getting big budget smashes like Lost and Desperate Housewives anymore. There's always been a lot of bad network TV.......it's just now there isn't much good/interesting network TV to balance it out. BBC & some of the premium cable channels still put out interesting shows, it's just a shame a lot of them either go unnoticed or behind a paywall. I guess it's easier to watch old shows because they're comforting & searching through 50 titles on streaming services to find something decent is exhausting.
Katamari Posted February 19 Posted February 19 ppl reliving childhoods and easier access i mean we have so many shows at our fingertips with streaming we never had before If i could watch Married with children when I was younger on demand i would do it everyday now we just mad tv on streaming also whos to say ppl weren't doing this before with their old DVDs/blurays lol
2NE1 Posted February 19 Posted February 19 TV was honestly so much better before social media became what it was. Survivor and Big Brother used to be so good.
shimind Posted February 19 Posted February 19 Its the same as old music(pre2010) getting more streams. Majority of the population (30+) realises that 80s,90s stuff was so much better and they were not too complicated plots so they are more like comfort shows. I like watching That's so raven. 2
